Windows Vista - Defender permissions and link to 'Help'

I have a new Acer laptop which came with Vista and am trying to install
programs.
The security is frustrating.
Defender reports some programs are 'Not Yet Classified' - even the 'Acer eAP
Launch Tool'.
Another program has installed a starter application on boot-up (Laplink12)
but this isn't working correctly and I should like to disable it until
Laplink come up with a patch. Unfortunately the 'Disable' button is greyed
out.
Addiung to the frustration is the fact that when I click on 'Help' in
Defender, a mesage pops up to tell me that 'Internet Explorer cannot download
/ from Windows '

Anyone have any suggestions on these problems?
