| PC Hangs I have just got a new Dell Dim 9200 with Vista. Every 5 - 10 mins (not exact) it hangs, if I have the CPU monitor open, it goes to 100%!. It stays in this state for around 10 seconds. The caps lock & num lock do not function during this period, nor does ctrl alt del. It does not matter whether the PC is using MS office or IE when it occurs. the PC is linked to th enet via an ethernet cable to a NETGEAR router. AOL is the ISP, although I never use their software. MCAfee is my antivirus. External peripherals are a HP deskjet 990cxi & a phillips web cam. Any ideas? PƔdraig. |

| Re: PC Hangs Have you gone through the Programs applet in Control Panel and checked for Dell "Fluff" you might want to remove ? Generally on a new machine you'll have a time period where the Indexing service will be cataloging the PC's contents. McAfee (or Norton) is just a "Ball-&-Chain" that really impacts performance. Basically all OEM PCs require what I refer to as "De-Dell-ifying" (Substitute your vendor for 'Dell') They all add stuff to their master image that overall kills the performance you expect from a new PC. I'd probably download/run SysInternals "Process Explorer" with it you can quickly isolate issues like you've described. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx "pmckeag" <pmckeag@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D88EC052-31A3-4D3B-8D50-ECEDC22A49FB@microsoft.com... >I have just got a new Dell Dim 9200 with Vista. | RE: PC Hangs Could be the initial indexing on a new computer. Seems to take a week or so to complete and you can't turn it off. I never heard of it freezing the computer. Contact Dell by using Chat if you are in the US. Dell Tech Talk would be a good place to check for help, too. http://www.dellcommunity.com/support...board.id=vista "pmckeag" wrote: > I have just got a new Dell Dim 9200 with Vista.
