We're trying out Vista Business on a few PCs here. One PC in
particular is left on each night, but appears to either be rebooting
during the night or just logging off the user. The logged in user is a
domain admin and the desktop is left locked. There aren't any
indications of what's happening in the event logs. All apps get closed
without saving files that were open. This is a 6-month old Dell
Optiplex with 3GB of RAM and seems to run Vista fine otherwise. We've
got 30 XP Pro PCs in the office that are on 24/7 and never log users
off like this. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this
issue?

I am not sure what might be happening. I suppose it could be a power
issue. (janitor unplugs perhaps?)

You said you have looked at the logs. Have you looked at the
Relilability and Performance monitor and clicked on the Reliability
Monitor subsection and look at the System Stablity Chart to see if
this says anything? ( I know this is kind of like looking at the
logs) A power yank should show up here as a disruptive shutdown
(other things can cause this message too)

Also (this is kind of silly) but parental controls can force a logout
as well as settings in the domain controller,

The System Stability Chart has actually been showing an increase in PC
stability over the past few weeks. We can seem to locate any specific
cause in the logs either. This PC is plugged into a UPS, and we also
have very few power problems in this building. We have power
fluctuations maybe 3-5 times a year. This past weekend we could not
remote to the PC in question, and discovered this morning that the
screen was black with just the mouse pointer visible. The PC had to be
powered off and rebooted. This is unfortunate as this was a clean
install of Vista, which we figured would be a much better bet than
upgrading one of our XP Pro images.
