| Vista Home Premium and Linksys Wireless Hello. I recently upgraded from XP to Vista Hope Premium on my Dell E1505 laptop. I now cannot connect to my wireless network (Linksys WRT54GX4 router). Vista "sees" the network, but will not connect owing to an "unknown problem." Both Linksys and Dell support have not been able to help. Dell stated that an updated driver for the Broadcom 802.11N adapter may be available in April or May and could possibly fix the problem. I've tried updating the driver, uninstalling it, disabling it, resetting the router, changing security settings, etc., with no luck. Vista will not even get to the screen to enter a security key for the network. It will, however, get to that point with other networks in the area. Anyone encounter a similar situation? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

| RE: Vista Home Premium and Linksys Wireless I've been attempting to fix connectivity problems in Vista by the following 2 things - it works some of the time: 1) disable IPv6 2) disabel the DHCP Broadcast flag in Vista ( http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233 ) - John "Chris N" wrote: > Hello. > > I recently upgraded from XP to Vista Hope Premium on my Dell E1505 laptop. > I now cannot connect to my wireless network (Linksys WRT54GX4 router). You can sometimes get away with uninstalling the card from hardware manager but this is nowhere to be found in any docs. Then you must uninstall the driver using the supplied CD (Run install again). Then you must install the driver, switch off when told and then refit the card. However it sounds like the card is working if you can see other networks so maybe you need to reset the router, if so you need to hold the button down for a long time, just pressing it does not work. Then of course you will have to run through the settings. Not sure any of this will help, you may have already tried it, but I think the key is that you MUST uninstall drivers etc before reinstalling, and if necessary physically remove the card. My Linksys router is about the worst, most unreliable piece of crap imaginable. Charlie |
