Reinstallation

Hi, this is probably a repeat but I was wondering if anyone can tell me the
best solution.

After upgrading windowsXPhome SP2 to Vista Premium Upgrade I have been
getting error after error, total dumps with the blue screen and user
switcher errors.

I am prepared to do another installation (backing up etc), should I
reinstall Vista (if that is an option on the CD) or should I do a total
reformat, install XP, then do the Vista Upgrade?

thanks

Re: Reinstallation

Hi SBR,

Before bothering to start over, I would first want to know the cause(s) of
the error, or you may be bound to repeat it. Any details from the stop error
screens may help diagnose what is causing the problem.

Re: Reinstallation

HI Rick, thanks for the input,

the next time I get the 'blue screen' I'll try to write down as much as I
can, I do remember seeing something about hardware issues, disconnect them,
etc. I haven't done that yet, and the other error that I get every time I
reboot is a small window saying

Super Fast user switcher has stopped working

Other than that I do like Vista alot, now that I'm getting used to it. But
the crashes are frustrating and I loose any info I'm working on.

Next step I'm going to disconnect printers, etc and see if that helps. I'm
sure there is a conflict somewhere that I need to narrow down. Thanks much.

Re: Reinstallation

Hi,

Blue Screens are caused by Driver problems more often than not. Have you
updated all your drivers to their Vista supported ones? These include
Display Drivers, Sound Card, Network Card etc. The Vista compatiblity tool
should have let you know which ones weren't compatable.

Usually Printers or scanners don't cause blue screens - they just wouldn't
work. The big one with blue screens is the video card.

Cheers,
Lara
