That's what you need to do then - Check for new definitions, or in other
words get the updates for it...

Open up the main Defender program,

Start > Type 'defender' > Click on 'Window Defender' (may have to
right-click and choose 'Run as administrator' )

and click on the button 'Check for new definitions', or words to that
effect.

You can also click the down arrow to the right of the ? at the top and
choose 'Check for updates'
Make sure you're connected to the Internet.

Re: Windows Defender

I have the same issue and please realize, we are not that dense. No matter
how many times or how I initiate the check for updates I continually receive
the "There are no new definitions available to download for Windows
Defender." message. Windows Defender will not start back up. I personally
am running Vista Ultimate x64.
