| System Restyore not working I have a new Dell PC with Vista Ultimate Edition. First, the screen was blank on start up occasionally. Also, System Restore will not work, even back to the last restore point. It seems to be working fine until after rebooting when I get an error message: "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer system files and settings were not changed. Detail: unspecified error occurred during System Restore". I have reinstalled OS, which has cured the monitor problems, but still System Restore will not work. Any suggestions please? -- Thanks very much for your help. Steve |

| RE: System Restyore not working I have a new Dell E520 with Vista Premium and get the same message as you are getting. The only way I can get System restore to work is to boot in safe mode. I am using Norton Security Suite for Anti Virus protectin. I have talked with a Senior tech at Dell in Austin and he has no idea why this is happening. If anyone can help us, please post. -- Tim s. | Re: System Restyore not working Hi Tim We have ecperienced the sytem restore problem on all machines with XPSP2 and Vista, when Norton Internet Security is installed. Our tests have shown that if you perform a completely clean install, use the system then attempt restore to a previous time all works well. Then Install NIS and you cannot restore. This has only appeared since NIS2006 and obviously with NIS 2007.2 for Vista. All other suites we have tried, Mcafee, Zone Alarm do not create the restore problem. In my opinion having discussed this problem with Symantec at great length with no remedy, would be to carry out clean install, without NIS and use another manufacturers package.
