to burn some files using Windows Media Player, it must make a copy first?

it seems that when I use Windows Media Player on Vista to burn
something to the DVD-R, it must make a copy first. The thing is, I
know for sure those files won't be changed. Why must it copy the
files and add strain to the hard disk to make a copy first? There is
no option or preference for it to not make a copy first.

WMP won't directly copy CDs. There are plenty of applications that will.
Nero, Roxio/Sonic, and probably an whole slew of shareware or free downloads
that will.

I guess the question is, since WMP can burn files into a DVD-R, why
can't it just burn without making a duplicate first? My HP desktop
doesn't come with any burning software, so I am stuck with this...

Re: to burn some files using Windows Media Player, it must make a copy first?

I tried again using the Media Center (on Vista) instead. Looked like
it could burn, but then it looks like it copies all the files first
before burning, as my "C" drive became fuller and fuller... oh
well...

and then i clicked Cancel before the disc started burning, oh well, it
burned part of the disc anyway without finalizing it... so now I need
to find a program to finalize it.

There is 3rd party burning software available that works in Vista, so you're
not "stuck" with anything. It's what you choose.

By the way, why post this to windowsxp.general?
