I think what I would try is running ProcMon under both cases, comparing the traces (especially on the FileMon side of the tool) and see what the differences are. BTW I don't use Vista myself so you may get a more informed reply in a Vista newsgroup. | Re: Cannot drag and drop to desktop Thanks for replying Robert. I'm checking out Process Monitor right now, and wow.. that's a pretty heavy trace I got.. well I try to compare them, and see if I can find something. Thanks for the suggestion! | Re: Cannot drag and drop to desktop Hi again, I haven't compared the differences yet, but procmon presents a lot of "Name not found" and "Fast io disallowed" results. I can see that my shortcut IS created under some weird "users \...\appdata\local\Microsoft\.... " path, but not on my desktop. Thanks for the tip Robert.. I'm sure this will lead somewhere, but I'm too tired right now, I'll try some more tomorrow. Thanks again! | Re: Cannot drag and drop to desktop Solved! Reason: Incorrect TEMP environment variable (my own fault, I added another directory to the TEMP variable instead of the PATH a week ago).
