| XP-Vista CD or data incompatibility? I created a CD (RW) on a Windows XP SP2 system by formatting the CD and copying some files over to it. Then I took the CD to a Vista (Home Premium) system and copied the files onto the harddrive. Then I went back to the XP system to copy more files, and the CD wouldn't load. I tried a number of times, and my system just hung. After a series of (time wasting) reboots, I checked the error log and it says that there's a bad sector on my CD. But when I bring it back to the Vista system, it works fine. Does Vista write something onto a CD when it gets loaded, that would be incompatible with an XP system? For instance, does it update the last accessed date/time or some other data in the boot sector or in other system data areas, in such a way that an XP system can't read these sectors? I don't think the CD media is bad, and neither does the Vista system, but the XP system won't read the CD. I did format and use another CD in the XP system, so the drive is OK. Thanks. |
