I have downloaded the driver and Vuescan trial and it all works on my Canon LiDE30. However, for the amount & quality of scanning I'm ever likely to do, I wonder if I'd be better off spending the registration fee on a scanner with Vista support from the manufacturer. Is it possible to make the driver work with the built-in Windows Fax & Scan programme, or get the Canon software to work with the driver? When I installed the driver my scanner appeared in the "Scanners and Cameras" list. But if I ask to start a new scan in the Fax & Scan programme it says there is no scanner connected. Similarly if I try to use the CanoScan Toolbox there are no scanners to pick from the drop down menu in that. Thanks. Neil |

On the site http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...1&modelid=6623 the download link http://alpha02u.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?SV=WWUCA900 show you a Vista32 driver, I don't know why Canon prefer this driver, but try the "CanoScan LiDE20/LiDE30 Scanner WIA Driver for Windows XP" download!!! Works perfect here with all programs. (Office2007, Paint.Net, MsPaint) I have no idea if Vista in general not support TWAIN any longer, but my graphic program "Pain.NET" only support WIA drivers, maybe this is a general problem with Vista? Only support for WIA? Peter |

| Re: For owners of scanners not supported by Vista. I have HP ScanJet 5370C. HP don't support it with VISTA. I could be nice, if somebody can explain, why. Anyway, 5370c don't cooperate with original Vista. In the internet i found four ideas to resolve it: 1. Use PrecisionScan as an administrator/give full rights to every user (was not helpful for me). 2. Use Vuescan (it works, with its "$" if you don't pay for it). 3. Delete the drivers that Vista+an installed original-(not from HP-page) version of PrecisionScan uses as the drivers. Restart. Disconnect your scanner. Install Vuescan with its drivers. Connetct the scanner. Wait until Vista can use the scanner (less than 1 minute). Start PrecionScan. (Worked, but only a short time, because I changed the preferences.) 4. Disable Pocket-PC. (Maybe this was the solution for me. 5370c works now anyway. The buttoms on the scanner not.) Is this a question of user rights, or about TWAIN-drivers, or about cooperation with Pocket-PC/its interrupts? Eskoboy -- Eskoboy Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

| Re: For owners of scanners not supported by Vista. > I have HP ScanJet 5370C. HP don't support it with VISTA. I could be > nice, if somebody can explain, why. That scanner was released years ago, and it isn't in HP's interests to go to the trouble of developing a Vista-compatible driver for it, when they would rather you bought a new one. Scanners are so cheap these days, I recommend you buy a new one (not necessarily an HP). It is likely to be far less trouble in the long run than all that messing about you've been doing. SteveT |

| Re: For owners of scanners not supported by Vista. Hi When Vista was released HP decided the following :- 1) If the prodict is still sold then these products will fully support Vista in BOX for new sales, dependant on retailer. 2) If the product is less than 3 years old it is still classed as current product and users can download the full or basic drivers from the web. 3) Products older than 3 yrs no support. | Re: For owners of scanners not supported by Vista. Hi To add the ScanJet 5370c went out of current product last year, also please note that HP scanner support is now commerical, and if there is a business case from the customer then there may be a possibility for a driver. XP drivers supported ALL features for printers and scanners. Vista drivers (included on the Vista DVD) BY DESIGN were crippled meaning advanced printer/scanner features for many popular models that used to work under XP no longer work under Vista. Yes, Ballmer's fingerprints are all over the documents which I posted here some time back. Instead of fixing the problem, they just went ahead and released Vista with severely weakened drivers causing many to replace their hardware which should not have been necessary... including yours truly. Call me a critic if you must, but I've uncovered so much BS from just about every company in the computer biz, I'm jaded. Take this example. I replaced my less than 9 month old Epson printer which printed directly on DVDs with a Canon MP600. Here's the rub. As sold in the United States (patent issues) this printer has been deliberately crippled by Canon to prevent it from printing on DVDs, yet it is perfectly capable of doing so and is sold throughout Europe with direct DVD printing enabled and the irony is this printer produces outstanding high quality and at low cost and high speed. I was put wise by some Canon salesperson that was doing a demo at my local Fry's super store. He asked if I was interested and I say yes, but pointed out the MP600 didn't print on DVDs, which I need. He pulled me aside and whispered anyone could order the Canon DVD tray from several that sold them off E-bay and a simple firmware hack you did to the printer was available off several web sites. So for $20 (cost of the tray) I now get great looking DVD's printed in less than 30 seconds. The point is DO NOT TRUST ANY COMPUTER COMPANY. They are all devious, greedy, and don't give a **** for their customers caring only about fattening their bottom line. In this case Epson holds the patent for direct printing on DVDs in North America. They do license this technology to others like Canon but restrict it's use in some effort to corner the market, legal, yes, but devious. Now you know. |
