I had problems with Netgear WG311T, mostly cured by updating the drivers and doing the same as in XP, just they were in different places called different things. |

| Re: vista can't connect to existing network Here's some links that will help you network Vista. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/vista_fp.mspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa905087.aspx http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/409fb2fa-8eb8-45af-b063-4f50f5a77b291033.mspx?mfr=true http://www.jimmah.com/vista/Networking/ Your post is a little confusing. Are you using a Linux pc for a router or a Netgear router? In the Vista Network and Sharing Center make sure the network is not set to Public. In the TCP/IP properties make sure NETBIOS is enabled. Those are the two most common problems in my experience. -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca "dimitri" <ds@octavum.com> wrote in message news:1172237790.392410.197520@p10g2000cwp.googlegroups.com... > have an existing network with xp, mac osX and a linux (router for > internet). > > now i bought another laptop with vista. what ever i try or do, i can't > connect to the network d see other computers. when i plug in ethernet, > at least i get internet. but can't see the server or other computers. > wireless - nothing works, can't network, internet, nada. > > my network is set up with static ip address and the router is NETGEAR. > > how come all other machines never have troubles and the all new > improved top networking machine is nothing but trouble? > > thanks for any help or tips > > dimitri > |

| Re: vista can't connect to existing network the linuxd computer is connected to the braodband and acts as a server. my netgear router is only as network router in action. ethernet cable goes in, ethernet cable comes out. and the wireless function should do the same thing On Feb 24, 2:10 am, "Kerry Brown" <k...@kdbNOSPAMsys-tems.c*a*m> wrote: > Here's some links that will help you network Vista. > > http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/vista_fp.mspx > > http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa905087.aspx > > http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/409fb2fa-8eb8-4... > > http://www.jimmah.com/vista/Networking/ > > Your post is a little confusing. | Re: vista can't connect to existing network Your explanation still doesn't make much sense. I'm guessing the Linux pc is a router and the Netgear is just being used as a switch? Is there anything plugged into the WAN port on the Netgear? -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca "dimitri" <ds@octavum.com> wrote in message news:1172264632.250719.25820@z35g2000cwz.googlegroups.com... > the linuxd computer is connected to the braodband and acts as a > server. my netgear router is only as network router in action. > ethernet cable goes in, ethernet cable comes out. and the wireless > function should do the same thing > > > On Feb 24, 2:10 am, "Kerry Brown" <k...@kdbNOSPAMsys-tems.c*a*m> > wrote: >> Here's some links that will help you network Vista. >> >> http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/vista_fp.mspx >> >> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa905087.aspx >> >> http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/409fb2fa-8eb8-4... >> >> http://www.jimmah.com/vista/Networking/ >> >> Your post is a little confusing.
