Vista mail outbox message stuck

I can't delete it, send it, move it, cut it... when I right click for
properties
it gives me an error message- the properties of this message could not be
displayed, an error has occured.

I tried rebooting but its still there.

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

There isn't a whole lot you can do if you can't delete it. You can try
using my WMUtil program to compact and repair the database and see if that
helps. See www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

Anyone file a bug with Microsoft? I and many others have this problem. This
is very annoying. Now that I upgraded to RTM, I don't have the link to file
a bug.

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

I am very annoyed with this bug, but I don't know how to report it either. I
had messages I thought I sent but they get stuck also, however I can send or
delete them manally. Maybe I will take my computer back to Best Buy, its
still under warranty.

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

You can close WinMail and then move the entire contents of the message store
directory to another directory and that will start it up fresh. You can
then drag the eml files (messages) back into the WinMail folders.

Microsoft is unlikely to fix any bugs in WinMail anytime soon, as it has a
very low priority. So workarounds and 3rd party programs are going to be
required, just as they were with OE.

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

Its fixed, I was on the phone earlier with a microsoft support guy and he
wanted me to re-install windows!! I spent 4 hrs looking for help and calling
and posting, Seems as if they at least made the fix easier to find, that
would be a start.....
I learned about this discussion group so it wasn't a complete waste of time

I'm glad you got it fixed.

I'm sorry MS was so ignorant and unresponsive.

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

I am totally FRUSTRATED -- I have one email STUCK and the error message--can
not receive any further incoming email. I just bought my new Gateway
computer with VISA installed -- I Gateway's OnLine Chat feature -- they told
me to call Microsoft and gave me a phone number. Microsoft told me that my
machine was an OEM and I would have to PAY $69 for support. I called Gateway
and SPOKE to a technician -- he said that he could do NOTHING. OH MY
!!!!!! Such frustration with my long awaited new computer purchase. Thanks
for nothing GATEWAY & MICROSOFT !

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

Not in WM, but using other email programs, I've had email stuck on the
server, which prevented me from downloading any messages.
In those cases, I've been able to log into my mail via the web access my ISP
provides, or by using a free email site, like
http://www.e-mailanywhere.com/
and delete the offending email (usually spam).

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

You didn't specify, but I assume the stuck message is in the
Windows Mail program. Until such time as someone can
fix it for you, why don't you read your mail via the web?
Just about all ISPs have web mail access now.

Get the location of the Windows Mail datbase folder in Tools | Options |
Advanced tab | Maintenance button | Store Folders button.
Close Windows Mail.

Navigate to that folder via Windows Explorer.
Drill down thru the subfolders to find the Outbox folder.

Delete everything in there or move it elsewhere.

Now restart Windows Mail and see if things are working correctly.

I had that error before and this is NOT a problem with any Windows Mail
folder, but with corrupt database file
%Userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Mail\WindowsMail.MSMessageStore. Microsoft tools cannot repir it. The
only way i know to repair it is exporting all email from the store and
removing this file and it's backup copy from Backup folder, or maybe the
whole Windows Mail folder.

Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck

I think you do not have to get rid of any files except the two
..smessagestore files. The one under the Windows Mail directory and the one
under the Windows Mail\backup\new directory.

I'll do some more tests.
