| Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck You also recieved a substantial discount (approx 61% at Ozzie prices) which included no support from MS. For the edition I have you would have paid $293 for OEM versus $754.95 for Retail (which is what I paid). | Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck What makes it even worse (and I don't know the applicability to Acer) but many of the computer makers are dumping all kinds of software on the machines (the software companies pay them for that), all of which insist on running at startup and users are having troubles and no one can understand why. And its gotten so complex that no single group of individuals understands it all, so no wonder, when something breaks, no one has a clue what could be the root cause. And companies are selfish -- they care about their income and their personal interests at the exclusion of the other companies, and particularly the consumer. steve "One-eyed Willie" <OneeyedWillie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9F4766C7-634C-4FB0-B9B2-11EB96B829BA@microsoft.com... >I am frustrated with Microsoft's support policy for folks who bought a > computer with Vista pre-installed by the OEM. | Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck It sounds as if you have antivirus software loading WinMail in the background. Remove McAfee or Norton AV and antispam from the computer if they exist. You may need to visit their website to fully uninstall the product. Then get something less invasive. There are a number of free antivirus programs, but with any you have to disable email scanning. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Then you can try WMUtil. If that doesn't work, the only solution so far is to wipe out the database. So go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Advanced | Store Folder to find the message store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and point to the directory to which you moved the files. steve "Laura Kreisa" <Laura Kreisa@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:88E8C089-4124-414B-80A5-46EC45AF2587@microsoft.com... > Steve- I have the same issue- a message stuck in the outbox-can't delete, > move etc. > Blocking me from sending any messages. | Re: Vista mail outbox message stuck Did you have to reinstall VISTA? My messages were stuck in the outbox. I was able to move them to folders (going to EDIT)and/or delete (going to FILE)... except for one message. That message remains and the pop-up ERROR box always comes up. When I click SEND &RECEIVE there is a quick message about connecting and disconnecting. Is there a quick disconnect... not allowing those messages to be sent? I saw a similar problem running Vista RC1. My solution was to turn UAC (User Account Control) back *on*. I had turned it off previously and that was when my problems started. Assuming you *have* turned UAC off, you can turn it on by: * Start==>Control Panel * Right Click 'User Accounts' * Left Click 'Open' * Left Click 'Turn User Account Control on or off' * Left Click on the 'Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer' check box. Check mark should appear. * Left Click the 'OK' button If I remember correctly, you will have to reboot before the change takes effect. I did submit a problem report on this issue. -- Alan Norton - Pecos Reviews of ABIT AN8 SLI, ECS P965T-A & Foxconn 975X7AB-8EKRS2H MBs Vista Confusion, Missing Posts Mysteries & Playing the Rebate Game Articles Arizona Pics and Cute Animal Pics http://www.mindspring.com/~anorton1/ |

I went back and looked at my notes on this and found that to recreate the problem I had first turned UAC *off* and then turned UAC back *on*. That is when the Mail problems occurred. If you have turned UAC off and then back on, turning UAC back off again could resolve the issue. Just follow the instructions above and uncheck the 'Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer' check box. If you want to continue to use UAC, you may have to reload Vista or use one of the other methods mentioned in the thread. -- Alan Norton - Pecos Reviews of ABIT AN8 SLI, ECS P965T-A & Foxconn 975X7AB-8EKRS2H MBs Vista Confusion, Missing Posts Mysteries & Playing the Rebate Game Articles Arizona Pics and Cute Animal Pics http://www.mindspring.com/~anorton1/ |
