| OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA I used Outlook for Contacts, Reminders, Action Items, etc. It installed OK with my Office 2000 suite. I transferred the PST file successfully and all looked OK. However, when trying to add actions to the calendar, I get - - ERROR OPENING WINDOWS ADDRESS BOOK. UNABLE TO FIND WAB.DLL I check the various Knowledge Bases and they say Reinstall Outlook Express. Well Vista doesn't use Outlook Express. So, I look in my old ME system and my XP system on my laptop for WAB.DLL. WAB.DLL doesn't exist in either system. I do find a OUTLWAB.DLL. So, I planned to copy OUTLWAB.DLL into Vista. However, Vista already has this file. How can I get Outlook working in Vista? |

| Re: OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA Uninstall Office 2000 completely. Reboot your PC, then try another install of Office. Once you have installed Office, try the Office updates. Then import. See what happens. | Re: OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA Well Zim, it was a good suggestion, but it didn't work. Maybe I'll just have to buy a copy of OUTLOOK 2007. | Re: OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA Mellowed-- This is a confused message and you are mixing components of Outlook that is part of Office as you know and WAB (Outlook Express). WAB is the Windows Address Book that is used by Outlook Express. WAB doesn't have anything to do with Outlook unless (not Vista) in XP or prior you were importing the WAB to a version of Outlook. That's not you now. If you are on an XP box, you can share contacts between Outlook and Outlook Express (WAB): www.slipstick.com/contacts/oeshare.htm www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm Wab can be restored on a pre-Vista box: www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/outlook_wab.html AYK, there is no Outlook Express in Vista--it uses Win Mail that uses a new storage format. WAB has been replaced in Vista and Win Mail by Windows Contacts in this version of Windows. Windows Contacts has all the features of the old Windows Address Book, as well as some new features, such as the ability to add pictures to your contacts. Open Windows Contacts by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Contacts. Note you upgrade to this version of Windows from Windows XP, each of your contacts in Windows Address Book will be automatically converted to the ..contact file format and stored in a separate file in your Contacts folder http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/21f6feb6-5774-44b0-9580-d6f9950c71701033.mspx Outlook 2000 will work in Vista as will Office 2000. Are you having a specific problem with Outlook and what is the error message? It should not have anything to do with the Win Mail Contacts folder. When you try to open Outlook 2000 what do you see? Have you looked for errore in Event Viewer by typing eventvwr.msc in run box? Have you tried the repair mechanism in Outlook 2000 which is Detect and Repair? Also I'd run SFC . Type cmd in search box above start button>rt. click it>run as admin>and at cmd prompt type sfc /scannow. | Re: OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA Chad, Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I have never used Outlook for email in the past. Only Outlook Express. The problem is that Outlook keeps bringing up the error message unable to find WAB.DLL. I don't know why this happens and it is making Outlook useless. This PC is a new home built system with clean installs for everything. The primary components are: Vista Ultimate Gigabyte 965P-DS3 mobo. 2 gb ram E6600 CPU Nvidia 7950GT Office 2000 using Word, Excel, Outlook and Access Win Mail imported my address book OK I did a copy/paste of my old PST file to bring Outlook up to day. It copyied OK and Outlook looks normal. The problem is when I try to make new entries. I get the error msg about WAB.DLL. It doesn't make sense. I can't find the Outlook 2000 Detect and Repair. Where is that buried? I checked Event Viewer. There are lots of error codes as far as I can tell related to incompatible old software such as Nero, Scanner Drivers, Printer drivers, etc. Nothing related to Outlook. I'd be grateful if we can just get Outlook 2000 working and get rid of that awful WAB.DLL error code. | RE: OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA I've had the same problem, now un-installed outlook and using windows mail. Obviously another Bill Gates commercial decision to force people to upgrade to Outlook 2007. | Re: OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA Use the Outlook from Office 2003. Office 2003 is the oldest Office version that fully works under Vista. | Re: OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA I, too, had the same problem with Outlook 2000 on Vista Home Basic on a brand new PC. Trying everything, including completely reimaging the hard drive (to no avail), I stumbled across a blog that solved the issue: Use Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System Copy wab32.dll and wab32res.dll to C:\Windows\System32 It worked like a charm! (my thanks to Scott's Blog at Wordpress.com) |

| Re: OUTLOOK 2000 & VISTA Used the the solution above with OUTLOOK in Office 2000 on a brand new DELL INSPIRON E15105 to resolve the WAB.DLL issue and it worked well. Next to overcome was; Outlook kept opening to the Outlook 2000 STARTUP box, no matter what. Solved that by right clicking on the Outlook.exe file in Windows Explorer, selecting the compatibility tab, and checking the "run as administrator" checkbox. That ensures Outlook doesn't start from scratch. I've populated the address book that VISTA uses for e-mail, and all works well except; WHEN OUTLOOK OPENS, I INSTANTLY GET A BOX INDICATING THAT "A PROGRAM IS TRYING TO ACCESS E-MAIL ADDRESSES YOU HAVE STORED IN OUTLOOK. DO YOU WANT TO ALLOW THIS?" CHOICES ARE FROM 1 TO 10 MINUTES IF YOU CHECK THE BOX "ALLOW ACCESS". IT IS INCREDIBLY AGRIVATING, ESPECIALLY IF AFTER 10 MINUTES YOU DO NOTHING, IT GENERATES MULTIPLE BOXES AND YOU EITHER HAVE TO ANSWER THEM ALL (ONE SILLY GAME) OR SHUT DOWN OUTLOOK. HELP IS NO HELP, I'VE TRIED SEVERAL SECURITY (ALLOW ACCESS) CHANGES, AND IT DOES NOT INDICATE WHAT PROGRAM IS TRYING TO ACCESS THE ADDRESSES OR WHICH ADDRESS SET (NEWLY POPULATED ADDRESS BOOK, OR THE OLD ONES IMPORTED TO THE OLD CONTACTS FOLDER).
