| Re: Window vista 2nd release or service pack Hi, There is not even so much as a discussion of this going on. I think that next (after longhorn server goes mainstream), MS will be concentrating its considerable resources on SP3 for XP and server 2K3. Vista's first SP may follow that. It certainly won't be anytime soon. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Matty20" <Matty20@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:77305DCB-0412-4315-9FB1-206927667266@microsoft.com... > Does anyone know when microsoft will release a 2nd release of windows > vista > or service pack? > -- > Matt |

| Re: Window vista 2nd release or service pack This one isn't a question though. The SP for Vista will be released at launch of Server. It will bring the codebases back into line with one another for some simple reasons. Once they get the codebase back in line then fixes will be simpler and will be easier to deploy across the spectrum of products. Also new SP's can be released simultaneously which will save cost/time for business and make rollouts less of a headache. I'm not guessing on this, this is solid info. | Re: Window vista 2nd release or service pack Hi Shane, I know what was said, I just don't place a lot of stock in it. I also know that many releases do not happen as predicted for any number of reasons, and unscheduled delays are quite common (think: winfs). To say with absolute certainty that this will happen as planned is not a bet I would make or take. | Re: Window vista 2nd release or service pack BTW... I believe this rumor to be true. But since I have not seen any official source from within Microsoft verify the information, I treat is as a rumor. Quite regularly Microsoft gets blamed for missing a date when Microsoft made no such commitment. Rumors lead some to believe it to be fact and they then complain when Microsoft missed something Microsoft never claimed to begin with. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "Jupiter Jones [MVP]" <jones_jupiter@hotnomail.com> wrote in message news:%23UK89lEVHHA.4188@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > What is the question is the source. > What is your source? > > "That's been stated over and over again" > That is not a source and does not make it fact. > > "this is solid info" > From where? > Who said it? > > -- > Jupiter Jones [MVP] > http://www3.telus.net/dandemar > http://www.dts-l.org > > > "Shane Nokes" <Morpheus_Phreak@nospam.msn.com> wrote in message > news:CC21E979-0956-404F-8FFD-8C18BEF5D662@microsoft.com... >> This one isn't a question though. >> >> The SP for Vista will be released at launch of Server. >> >> It will bring the codebases back into line with one another for some >> simple reasons. >> >> Once they get the codebase back in line then fixes will be simpler and >> will be easier to deploy across the spectrum of products. >> >> Also new SP's can be released simultaneously which will save cost/time >> for business and make rollouts less of a headache. >> >> I'm not guessing on this, this is solid info. |

| Re: Window vista 2nd release or service pack My source is actual team members from campus. I live about an hour south of Redmond and I'm up there at least 3 or 4 times a year. This has been stated to me that they will release SP1 at the same time they rollout the new server. It's not something they plan on doing it is what will happen. Server will only be released when they feel it is of high enough quality. By it's very nature a server OS must be 100% rock solid. That codebase will then be used to form the service pack. So yes Fiji will be out this year at the same time as Server. I can't name names in the public NG, but I will say one of the SDE in Test/Shell guys is the one who told more than one of us about it while I was up there for meetings. | Re: Window vista 2nd release or service pack Without verifiable names etc it is hearsay. Since I do not know your anonymous source, what you say has the validity of a rumor to me. And I have heard a lot of rumors. When I get information directly from Microsoft or any other source about anything for that matter, I do not expect others to take it as fact from me if I an unwilling or unable to cite the specific source. Without such a verifiable cite I do not take such information as fact. Otherwise I would have had to do the same a few months ago when a person claimed his high level contact at Microsoft said Vista would not be publically released 30 January. Of course we know that reliable source was all wrong. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "Shane Nokes" <Morpheus_Phreak@nospam.msn.com> wrote in message news:2F609E8B-A16D-450E-B471-684D1EC9DFD5@microsoft.com... > My source is actual team members from campus. > > I live about an hour south of Redmond and I'm up there at least 3 or 4 > times a year. > > This has been stated to me that they will release SP1 at the same time > they rollout the new server. > > It's not something they plan on doing it is what will happen.
