One for Vista owners.

I am amazing to see how many people are complaining here.

If you were clever enough to buy Vista as soon as it came out, and were
dooped by marketing - you should just sit tight and shut up. Because there
are months of rough water ahead of you yet.

I thought it was common knowledge not to go near an operating system in
early stages. To at LEAST look into it.

All of you have dropped a perfectly fine working OS (WinXP) for an
over-marketed prettier version.

Well done for shooting yourself in the foot.

I'm not trying to say anyone is stupid, I mean you are force fed on TV, on
Radio, on the net that Vista is good, we want Vista.

All I am saying if you went out and bought it ASAP, then you shouldnt be
here whining about how horrible it is, and how nothing works.

You should be accepting the fact YOU as a consumer made a mistake. THE
BIGGEST MISTAKE.

You made an impulse buy, without thoroughly looking into the product...

Any quick search on reviews of Vista would have suggested you WAIT 6 months
or a year.

But Micro$oft and their shiny pretty advertisments caught you right in their
net.

So stop complaining, and enjoy what you put yourself into - stop blaming
Micro$oft, and go back to XP - We dont have to accept Vista.

IMO.

David:
I would appreciate it if you would let me know when the "months of
rough water ahead of you yet" start. I've been running Vista x64 full time
since the end of November, 2006 without problems. Taking the time to study
and research Vista before purchasing or installing it can eliminate a lot of
the problems or errors that are being encountered. Have a great day.

Maybe for chuckles - that's why I'm here. I use Linux - it just works.

Re: One for Vista owners.

Because nobody EVER has ANY problems with linux, right? I could repeat the
same:

I use Vista - it just works.

Well, it just works for me. It has been working fine (beta versions) since
June, RTM since November. Doesn't mean that others never have problems.

Remember, there is no such thing as 100% secure code or 100% bug free code.
Yes, that includes Vista and Linux.

Re: One for Vista owners.

I believe people post to a newsgroup for problems and to get answers to
those problems.
XP when it first arrived was not the OS it is now and the same with Linux.
Vista will have it's share of problems but hopefully it will become like XP.
Yes many people will have to upgrade to a better system so that means money
into the economy.
As for people being first on their block to have Vista, it is a personal
choice.
Complaining is a way of life in America and that is what make the world go
round. Hell you
have made a statement of complaint about people who bought Vista and are now
not to happy.
Let it go........................................

Re: One for Vista owners.

Ranting aside... the one point you make, without trying to make it, is that
folks need to do due diligence prior to moving to Vista. Folks with home
grown systems need to understand that there may be problems.

I've been running Vista, blah-blah-blah, for 10 months now. I like it. Works
for me. Many improvements over XP. Desktop now drawn by DirectX freeing up
system RAM to work for the CPU. Better memory management without doubt. Less
crashes, at least here.

Biggest issue, and everyone here knows it: drivers. Got a buggy driver?
Yeah, life sux.

You're correct; many folks should probably stay with XP for the time being.
But not because Vista sucks. Because they don't have Vista drivers for their
hw. Or their sw is not Vista ready. Don't blame Vista for third party
issues.

And then there are idiots like you...who don't use the product they are
talking about. You are talking out of your ass, mainly because you have
your head firmly inserted there.

How about you do us all a favor and spare us your useless rhetoric?

You bore us.

Re: One for Vista owners.

well, I don't agree with your tone, but I do agree with your general
statement. A few too many people went out for Vista before they probably
should have. A few people upgraded, on hardware that they probably should
have known wasn't ready. Others hard hardware from nVidia or creative and
are getting bite by faulty drivers, and I do agree in principal that if you
lable your product "Vista Ready" yet, it isn't due to poor drivers, some
needs a kick to the nuts.

But, hey, every OS needs early adopters, else the 6 month wait won't do any
good.

Unless you want WiFi. Or decent 3D drivers. Or games.

If Linux just works, why does WINE, Cedega and Crossover Office exist?

No problem on my Ubuntu installation with any of those. Ubuntu
picked-up my PCI wireless card without any work needing doing on my
part. Unlike Windows, both XP and Vista.
[color=blue]

So that you can run Windows apps under Linux, if you need specific apps
which only work in Windows. I would have thought that was obvious.

Oh, I thought he was going to say: Because I want to know about the problems
encountered by the Pioneers before I head out into Vista wilderness. That's
what I would have said. That's why I'm here, and why, other than this, I've
had nothing to say; only to learn.

I'm not insecure or paranoid about whatever OS I use. (WXP, OS X and Linux.)

Re: One for Vista owners.

"wait 6 months" ......preumably you are referring to the current lack of
drivers or at least problems with some drivers for Vista? If this is the
case then surely you understand that the problems some people are
experiencing are due to this lack of drivers and not Vista itself? I don't
believe it's Microsofts fault that the likes of NVidia are being a bit slow.
Do you?

I understand what you're trying to say here, but there really is no risk in
installing Vista as long as you've done your research beforehand.

I used the upgrade advisor and checked my hardware manufacturers web sites
for availability of Vista Drivers.

I have a pretty run of the mill PC - Athlon XP 3200, GeForce 6800 gfx, SB
Audigy, various HD and optical drives and it's all running beautifully. Even
my Nostromo Gamepad worked without a hiccup and that's a rather esoteric
piece of kit.

Vista IS better than XP for a whole host of reasons and as far as i'm
concerned it was well worth the £66 odd I paid for the OEM version of it.

I have that - Dlink WNA2330 worked 'out of the box'. Didn't even need to
install drivers and reboot.
[color=blue]

I have that - proprietary NVidia driver.
[color=blue]

I have more than I need - I use my computer for work and a game machine
for games.

Because there are some folks who are tied to proprietary MS solutions -
why, I don't quite fathom. I've found, for example, suitable replacements
for photoshop, Office and quicken.
