| Windows Easy Transfer Windows Easy Transfer copied some folders from my XP machine that are obsolete in Vista. I tried to view them and get 'Access is denied' even though I am signed in as the owner and am an Administrator on the machine and have 'Full control' on the specific folder. Can I delete the old folders? How can I look at them? |

| Re: Windows Easy Transfer Hi, I'm guessing that you are referring to "Documents and Settings" and the like? If so, know that these are not actually folders but rather placeholders for compatibility with older software. What you are experiencing is quite normal, as they are only there for the programs that are hard coded to look for them. Their sole function is to redirect that program, there's nothing actually in them. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Vista Bobista" <Vista Bobista@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0E521630-2D15-4F8E-BF6A-07B7B52BFC3A@microsoft.com... > Windows Easy Transfer copied some folders from my XP machine that are > obsolete in Vista. | Re: Windows Easy Transfer I used WET to transfer all my settings and program files, along with other directories on my hard drive before trying a 64bit clean install. That didn't go well for me, the drivers/software just aren't mature enough yet to go to 64bit unless you have all new hardware, etc. Maybe I'll try it again on down the road. Anyway, I used my computer mfgs recovery disks and started back at Windows XP Media Edition and did an upgrade to the 32bit version of Ultimate. I then went to the image file I had created in the first installation of Vista and did a restore. 6 hours later, it had NOT restored my software, (C:\Program Files, C:\ProgData, etc.) or all of my settings (Desktop, etc.) but it did do some things like some desktop items, etc. Does it sound like I set something up wrong in first backup?? There aren't many things you can tell WET. "Rick Rogers" wrote: > Hi, > > I'm guessing that you are referring to "Documents and Settings" and the > like?
