Can't open .pps file attachments from Windows Mail

I get .pps files in email (the new Windows Mail program) but can't open. I'm
supposed to create a file association. I have powerpoint 2003 as my default
program to open these files. If I save them to my hard drive I have no
problem opening. I went to control panel to create association but still
doesn't work. Tried to download and run a fix for XP called ppsfix but that
didn't work either. Help!

What program are you using to read the pps files?

Re: Can't open .pps file attachments from Windows Mail

you should save it first anyway. by doubleclicking it from the email its
being copied to a temp location and then opened. in a lot of instances that
temp file wont be removed and will sit on your harddrive taking up space

Re: Can't open .pps file attachments from Windows Mail

When is someone going to come up with the proper fix to see powerpoint pps
files off of windows mail. I think saving them is wrong and I installed ,
uninstalled, both 2003 and 2007 power point readers. I have two xp machines
that work great with powerpoint , but " p e" of crap vista doesn't work.
And windows mail is a joke for speed compared to outlook express , also.

Re: Can't open .pps file attachments from Windows Mail

You may be able to speed up Windows Mail by doing this:
Tools, Options, Send, uncheck "Automatically complete e-mail
addresses when composing."

Re: Can't open .pps file attachments from Windows Mail

Gary , thank the windows for replay and new mail load in 5 seconds or less
But I loved that auto, but I hate the slowness, wish I could have both. I'm
still trying to use the To , CC etc and having problem with the contacts and
bringing up a email address to drag into the CC. Any spot to learn that?
Thanks again.

Re: Can't open .pps file attachments from Windows Mail

Gary , I have used outlook express again today and it's slow again ,but it
seems to speed up as I send more emails to various people during one session
but when I do something else and come back to the it slows down again.

In order to make it work with PowerPoint Viewer 2003 and 2007, see:

Re: Can't open .pps file attachments from Windows Mail

I finally got it to work, but can't remember how. Thanks for your help. I
must also say my life is better now with thunderbird mail. Also my free
nortons anti virus ran out and I'm waiting to get free anti virus with
roadrunner but nothing yet , so I downloaded avg and it's working great so
far caught some kind of trojan horse back door geeric3.GBB!CME # 762 and #
482 and removed it. Do you know of another anti spyware program beside
defender I can get, AVG's isn't compatible yet? Thanks , maybe Vista will
work out yet.
