| Program stops responding for a few seconds Recently I have noticed that what ever application I am in, often it stops responding for a few seconds and then it starts responding. I am operating Vista Home Premium 32bt. and have Norton Internet Security 2010 running. No other programs running at startup except sidebar. I appreciate help on this matter. I have run full NIS scan, full Malwarebytes, and full tune up in system mechanics 9. -- Best Regards Noor Motani |

Have you watched the Task Manager to see what else is happening during the pauses? | Re: Program stops responding for a few seconds You really can't make Norton 2010 the enemy. Since Norton Internet Security 2009 the company's product has been a fantastic revolution from what they did previously. It's not my job to tell you how good they are. Just try their new product. I have bought a three-licence version and so far I am very pleased. Oh, I should add that this is on my brand-new Windows 7 computer, running very well indeed. | Re: Program stops responding for a few seconds Norton Security creates that overhead-->slowdown. I use a simple, straightforward philosophy since like 20 years ago: a) Practice safe computing, that is allow incoming traffic from 100% trsuted sources. b) Whenever stuff needs to be installed from less known manufacturer's, scan that file/media/disk/etc (it's best to put a copy on harddisk for speed). Then close Antivirus/Antispyware/whatever you use there, shut it down. Install stuff. Done. ISTEAD of constantly running, in real-time, that Antivirus/Antispyware/etc. In other words simply scan media before you allow it insatlled or run on your syste, but do not run all these "security suites" in real-time. So what's the price you pay? You need to use brains when browsing Web, reading messages from unknown sources, connecting to FTP's, shopping, whatever. Because your real-time protecion is never on, your head is your best protection. Unfortunately majority of population is not adept to using brains, many people manage to get infected even inspite of running Norton, PCtools, etc in real-time, let alone disabling it!! So the bottom line: You either disabled Norton rea;-time protection & use brains when online, and you should alleviate slowdowns; or keep Norton real-time proection - in which case you have to accept slowdowns or simply buy a 2x more powerful computer because this is what they want you. Spend more money to handle their ever increasing hunger. Wherever you go, your Norton is filtering traffic and that's what causes slowdown. |

MS is about 64 % owned by international instititutions (Bill Gates and Steve Balmer own only 8 percent and 4.6 percent of shares respectively). About 40 % of its employees are based outside the US. Like most public limited liability companies it seeks to maximise profits for its shareholders, and has little allegiance to its country of origin. PS I'll be happy to buy something genuinely American too ;-) -- Jon |

| Re: Program stops responding for a few seconds I want to let every one know that I removed Norton for a few hours. The problem still persisted. That means that Norton is not the culprit. After I removed Norton, I went into windows mail. When I clicked the mail header to open the mail, I saw the message on the top task bar that windows mail stopped responding. After about 10 seconds the mail opened and worked as if nothing has happened. Now, what next?
