Hi, My computer freezes a couple of times a day and I have to manually
restart. I have cleaned the fan and inside the pc but it still happens, Acer
assures me that is not a memory problem. I believe the vista image is
corrupted and there a lot of programs installed that I have to uninstall eg.
Norton antivirus, Esobi and CD burning software.
I have recently upgraded to windows 7 from Vista but it's still freezing, I
haven't got a Vista disc as it was preinstalled by Acer. I decided to
upgrade as I didn't lose my settings maybe that wasn't the way to go!
It could be the fan as it seemed a lot better in winter (I'm in Australia)
but I didn't want to go to the expense of buying a new power supply if that
didn't fix the problem.
My computer is an Acer T690, Intel Dual core, 2.2 ghz. It is not under
warranty any more as I voided that by installing '7'
Any more suggestions on what I can do?

While others will fespond to you I just wanted to mention:
There's a way for Windows7 Upgrade Disk to be used for CLEAN INSTALL (onto a
virgin/empty disk).
Always a good idea.

As of Acer itself - it's Chinese.
Why don't you next time get an HP, while saving American jobs?

Maybe I suffer from "stuck up" memory but I';; never forget how bad,
unrelaible Acer used to be despite their sharp improvement in recent years.
Likewise I'll never buy Hyundai cars despite their lame attempt to copy
Honda's brandname and offer 100Kmile warranty - it's still Korean, not
Japanese, I'll go with real Honda or American Ford (more likely Ford to save
our jobs).

Acer is something of 2nd sort to me.

My HP laptop is "Made in China".

My Hyundai is a great car.

Face facts, the age of USA is nearly over - due to lousy company management
and ridiculous expectations driven by the Wall Street crooks.

GFC - Made in the USA!

Check that there is no dust build up on the CPU cooler.

You should be able to see the cooler fins clearly through the fan. If
you can't, remove the fan carefully - you don't want to break the seal
between the CPU and the heatsink - and clear the dust mat.

Dear you need to educate yourself about Economics.
HP is an American co. headquarted in USA.
While manufacturing is outsouced, in order to take advantage of cheap labor
and pollute Chinese (not American) environment, the TAXES/PROFTS FLOW INTO
USA.

Get it?

I know ideally you would want a company to ALSO manufacture in USA, but at
least having it headquartered & registered here means profits flow not to
China, bu tto here.
At the worst we lose manufacturing jobs.
Yet we gain Engineering/design white-collar jobs, wnich I represent.
As an EE Engineer I've studied these tricks long enough, for 20+ years.
Every time you buy Acer, Lenovo or another foreign brand you hurt your
homefront.

As of Hyundai - to each is own. I guess if you're out of money, then
Hyundai is for you. For rme it's Nissan, Honda or Ford for the midrange,
and for luxury - it's European.

Hi,

Upgrading a malfunctioning machine is rarely a good idea. As the problem
continues, the source is probably a hardware component failing. If you run
the memory diagnostics (don't just listen to a manufacturer, run the
diagnostic tools in Windows or one of the many free ones available) and a
diagnostic on the hard drive and they both pass, then the next steps is to
either locate a qualified technician or swap in known-good parts starting
with the power supply, cpu, and if it still continues, the motherboard.
