Does no-body ever SEARCH this group any more? This has been posted and
answered HUNDREDS of times in the last few weeks.
The answer is NO.

The official MS Windows 7 forum can be found here:

I searched the newsgroup hierarchy by downloading the hierarchy from the
Microsoft server. Failing to find the hierarchy from the source, I asked
the question.

Why would anyone assume that Microsoft was going to stop using USENET when
they have thousands of existing groups in their hierarchy?

Note there's no MVPs here anymore. When Vista General was launched, the
place was crawling with MVPs. Note that two individuals, Frank and a
person who keeps changing his name have totally ruined this group. I
doubt very seriously that MS wants them to ruin the Windows 7 groups.
Hence, web based and moderated forums from now on.

The following newsgroup is available, but not on many servers.
alt.windows7.general
(and "gordonbparker" is answering questions in that newsgroup)

As Microsoft failed/refused(?) to open any Windows7 newsgroup,
one could assume that MS does not want to do so.
So far nobody has seen any official announcement of Microsoft,
whether there will be Windows7 newsgroups or not and why not and what
would be the preferred alternative according to Microsoft.

Microsoft has however opened a confusing array of Windows 7 forums here:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories
and here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/w7itpro
other Windows 7 forums are:
http://www.sevenforums.com/
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/
and many more

Oddly enough there seems to be a newsgroup with the name
"microsoft.public.it.windows7" on the Microsoft server. Whatever the
Italians did, maybe we should do the same.

Refresh your MS newsgroups and you will see it disappear.

How many times are people going to ask this question? Have they missed
the 20+ other times its been asked in the past week?

Answer is still no, and likely it will stay that way.

There are actually still MVPs here though.

The really brown nosing MVPs like Carey are crawling all over the
Windows 7 web forums. The ones here are closer to the Dark Side.

Ahhh, never looked at it to know, I don't speak Italian either.

Yup, seems this server's days are numbered.
