| Re: Ubuntu will rule the world! Linux distros are fads. One year RedHat is the rage, the next its Mandrake. But the next year after Mandrake declares bankruptcy and then it's Mint that's "the distro". Of course, that doesn't last and along come Ubuntu. Ubuntu though gets abandoned in favour of CentOS or some such and on and on and on it goes. They are always claiming this is the year Linux takes the desktop and it never is. UNIX and UNIX clones such as Linux are too arcane and antiquated for a general purpose desktop. It is and always will be an 0.1 percentile OS. Face facts Alias, they can put a 0.0 cent price tag on a Linux distro and they still can't give it away. No one wants it - well, most no one - and in most case, should a person actually happen to try it, they quickly realize its worth and flush it. Ubuntu is a fad and once people try Ubuntu or any one of the other 54,442 distros out there, they realize that Ubuntu is just a toy written by geeks for geeks. Almost nobody wants that piece of crap on their machines. Ubuntu is free and most people reject it. Give it up Alias. Now go talk to Kevpan and maybe you can go Imposter searching together. | Re: Ubuntu will rule the world! And what "General Purpose" desktop functions can Ubuntu "Not" do? I can run XP in a VM on here and Vista (Without Aero of course) both together and still use Ubuntu as the main OS and this is a 2001 machine with only a faster CPU, 1.5 GB memory and a better Graphics card. I never had any driver issues or problems setting it up this way, it just worked right out of the box (as it were). Burying one's head in the sand where viable competition is concerned is NOT Microsoft's best course of action, nor do I believe is it their attitude. So I can rotate the cube and be using Vista, rotate again and go to XP and rotate again to be back in Ubuntu. Sounds pretty "General Purpose" to me :) I am not "Advocating" anything, people use what they choose and rightly so, but if the saying hold true you need to keep your friends close and your enemies closer... It was BASHING Ubuntu! What a moron, he tries to boost up his little bandwagon and then links to a story about how much it sucks! Good job! Problem is Saucy, Alias doesn't care, he will keep blowing his own horn when it comes Ubuntu, no point trying to correct him. Just killfile him and tell everyone else to do the same. |
