| Ext4 on Desktop Oxymoron - Ubuntu sucks I guess coming out with a new version every 6 months, they must not finish everything. That is what they get for Open Source with FREE programmers working for nothing on their days off. Ext4 on Desktop Oxymoron -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What a great decision to make Ext4 the default filesystem for a desktop install breaking a great interoperability feature with Windows. Broken presumably until the lala land development schedule of linux decides to upgrade support. I am not going to attach exabytes of storage to my lapdesk system and the other purported improvements as in fragmentation have never been a priority for the desktop. Before anyone says it, doing a third OS install in a VM just to read a file is the wrong answer, in case you are not already aware. I mean did anyone think this through? Re: Ext4 on Desktop Oxymoron -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All software and standards, that are to be included as a default, go through an extensive vetting process. If accessing Ubuntu from Windows is so critical to your workflow then definitely stick to Ext3 until the ability to access ext4 from Windows is resolved. It is not mandatory you accept the defaults. A couple of sites to keep an eye on: http://www.fs-driver.org/ http://www.ext2fsd.com/ __________________ |
