How to install stuff with Ubuntu

You want to install software using Ubuntu? This will drive you crazy

Synaptic is a graphical front-end to apt, the package management system in
Ubuntu. It combines the point-and-click simplicity of the graphical user
interface with the power of the apt-get command line tool.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto#What is Synaptic

With windows, insert the CD or DVD and it autostarts. If not, you can click
SETUP on the media. then click next and it installs. No command lines.

No wonder why 99.999999% of the users reject Ubuntu as garbage. It is
garbage.

Bye bye Ubuntu

Microsoft to the rescue.

That's *ONE* way to install s/w.

You can also d/l a .deb or .rpm package and double-click it.

Is there another page that tells you what each of those available
programs are before you install them? I haven't yet found one that
lists the actual programs available and what they do. I prefer to know
that before I choose what to install.

Next, I'd like to know the step-by-step to update, upgrade, etc.,
compared to Windows, please.

Well....not an .rpm for Ubuntu, but other Linux distros use the rpm format.

Sorry, moron, but that's not true. I watch DVDs all the time and no need
for a line command to do it. Nice try but no cigar.

Just because you say so doesn't mean it's true. Nice try.

You don't need to take my word for it. Just install Ubuntu and find out
for yourself.
