| Is windows 7 just Vista with sp2 installed? Is windows 7 just Vista with sp2 installed? I read a comment on zdnet, that said Windows 7 is just Vista sp2 with a different desktop and start menu. So, is this user correct? One thing I am not do happy about with windows 7, is finding drivers for 32 bit hardware. I really don't want to have to buy a new printer. Greg |

Many people have sarcastically said that 7 is Vista SP3, but it's either a joke or a criticism, depending on the person speaking. -- Gene E. Bloch letters0x40blochg0x2Ecom |

Vista was the name of the last version of Windows, the version before that was called XP. There has been many changes between the last version of Windows and this version. Too many to list here. This so-called "logic" makes no sense. Using that logic you might as well call the last version of Vista "Windows XP SP 5" making Windows 7 "Windows XP SP6". |

This, by the way, is not a Windows 7, or a Microsoft issue. Each hardware manufacturer decides for itself whether it makes economic sense to develop new drivers for an older piece of hardware that is no longer selling much. After the Vista fiasco, they *need* to charge for it and if it flops, MS will have to live off XBox. Alias |

At least Windows 7 is a winner and Ubuntu is a LOSER. Of course they can charge for Windows 7. Millions have already purchased it. With Ubuntu, maybe 500 new users over the next 3 years. |

People reject Ubuntu 99% of the time because Ubuntu does not run the popular software programs out there. Ubuntu is worth what you pay for it: NOTHING |

Go back to playing with GIMP. |

I know 32 bit software will work on a 64 bit machine. Here is my hardware. I have an Emachine CRT VGA monitor. (Best for my eyes) I have Hp deskjet 3740 printer I have an agree system pci dial-up modem. (Computer Associates defunct company) It does work in xp. I might be better to get a Vista. I here people claim it is slow, how slow? I am used to slow systems. I always had a slow system. If Wal-mart, has a good deal on Cyber Friday, I might get Windows 7 and usb modem, and a printer . As far as I know the 32 bit drivers used for WinXP will work with Windows 7. Further, I have installed Windows 7 x64 and found that it included drivers for both my printers (HP 2280 and HP6980). > __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4535 (20091023) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. That was why there was so much discontent when Vista was introduced. The manufacturers were very slow in updating their drivers for Vista. Windows 7 uses the same driver model as Vista. If your hardware can not be made to run under Vista you will likely have the same problem under Windows 7. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience & Security |
