| Issues with Vista I have a customer concerning why Windows Vista crashes from time to time, with a dark blue screen "The Kiss of Death" sometimes it displays a memory dump, at most is reports in a flash... "Problem event Name BCCode d1. BCP1. 00180026 BCP2 00000002 BCP3 000000 BCP4 8CBA4590 OS Version 6_0_6001 Service Pack 1_0 Product 768_1" Any advise what is happening? Also, just noticed that SP2 wasn't installed... could this have been the issue as to why the system is slow and crashing on us? Any advise is most helpful! Dave- |

| Re: Issues with Vista Searched Google for error code with the following results: it might be either: -a driver error. -mismatched RAM modules. -or a damaged page file ( pagefile.sys ). The solution(s) could be: -check to make sure drivers, especially the video driver, are up-to-date -make sure the RAM modules match and are correct for the motherboard -go through the processes needed to delete and recreate the page file. | Re: Issues with Vista Dave, Most of the crashes are caused by defective hardware, malware or badly written device driver. In any case, you should establish a pattern. a) Are there more than one failing unit that share similar common hardware ? My latest BSOD was due to a bad driver for Ericsson wideband wireless modem. b) Is it totally unique case? Suspect faulty hardware (usually motherboard, memory etc). Before I turn to that direction, I usually wipe the disk and do a clean install. c) It can also be caused by malware. We witnessed recent malware that exploited SMB v2 protocol in Vista and Windows Server 2008. If that is the case, apply the latest batch of patches, released on this month's patching Tuesday. You can also use a reputable third party malware scanners.
