| USB is slow with Ubuntu? Can't be. Alias said Ubuntu is perfect (HA HA HA HA) Slow USB and SATA Transfer Speeds in Jaunty 9.04 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since installing Ubuntu 9.04 I noticed USB and Hard Drive transfers are not very fast. I'm transferring 15gb to an external HDD right now and it's going about 4MB a sec. At first it starts at 25MB/sec then it just slows down to a crawl. I've been following this thread and this is exactly whats going on: [url]http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1112701[/url] I have tried mounting the external usb HDD with -o sync or -o async and even -o nosync and the only thing they do is increase the initial "burst" speed but the transfer rate still slows to a crawl after a couple minutes. By default, I get constant 4mb/sec transfers if I use the automount function under nautilus (i.e. just clicking on the found external drive). USB 2.0 is enabled and no legacy support is enabled. I have an AMD64 5600+ and a biostar ta790gxba2 motherboard Included is my lspci, lsusb, and lsmod: lsmod Code: Module Size Used by usb_storage 94912 1 binfmt_misc 18572 1 ppdev 16904 0 bridge 63904 0 stp 11140 1 bridge bnep 22912 2 lp 19588 0 parport 49584 2 ppdev,lp snd_emu10k1_synth 15488 0 snd_emux_synth 46208 1 snd_emu10k1_synth snd_seq_virmidi 14464 1 snd_emux_synth snd_seq_midi_emul 16000 1 snd_emux_synth snd_emu10k1 162720 3 snd_emu10k1_synth snd_hda_intel 557364 3 snd_ac97_codec 133848 1 snd_emu10k1 snd_seq_dummy 11524 0 ac97_bus 10368 1 snd_ac97_codec snd_seq_oss 41984 0 snd_pcm_oss 52352 0 snd_mixer_oss 24960 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_seq_midi 15744 0 snd_rawmidi 33920 3 snd_seq_virmidi,snd_emu10k1,snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event 16512 3 snd_seq_virmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi snd_pcm 99336 4 snd_emu10k1,snd_hda_intel,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_seq 66272 9 snd_emux_synth,snd_seq_virmidi,snd_seq_midi_emul,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event snd_util_mem 13184 2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1 snd_timer 34064 3 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm,snd_seq snd_seq_device 16276 8 snd_emu10k1_synth,snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq emu10k1_gp 11520 0 snd_hwdep 16776 2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1 i2c_piix4 20112 0 psmouse 64028 0 gameport 21520 2 emu10k1_gp snd 78792 24 snd_emux_synth,snd_seq_virmidi,snd_emu10k1,snd_hda_intel,snd_ac97_codec,snd_seq_oss,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_pcm,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device,snd_hwdep soundcore 16800 1 snd snd_page_alloc 18704 3 snd_emu10k1,snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm k8temp 13440 0 pcspkr 11136 0 serio_raw 14468 0 nvidia 8123768 36 ohci1394 42036 0 ieee1394 108288 1 ohci1394 r8169 46596 0 mii 14464 1 r8169 usbhid 47040 0 fbcon 49792 0 tileblit 11264 1 fbcon font 17024 1 fbcon bitblit 14464 1 fbcon softcursor 10368 1 bitblitlspci Code: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 Host Bridge 00:02.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 PCI to PCI bridge (ext gfx port 0) 00:07.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 3) 00:11.0 SATA controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 SATA Controller [IDE mode] 00:12.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB OHCI0 Controller 00:12.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700 USB OHCI1 Controller 00:12.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB EHCI Controller 00:13.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB OHCI0 Controller 00:13.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700 USB OHCI1 Controller 00:13.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB EHCI Controller 00:14.0 SMBus: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 SMBus Controller (rev 3a) 00:14.1 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 IDE Controller 00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) 00:14.3 ISA bridge: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 LPC host controller 00:14.4 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 PCI to PCI Bridge 00:14.5 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB OHCI2 Controller 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 9800 GT (rev a2) 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Maybe this is the problem? If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
