| How clone a 2 1/2" laptop drive I want to use Acronis to clone my disk (laptop). How do I choose a disk and plug it in to my laptop (which only has one disk drive and no extra bays)? Sorry - I forgot to cross post...... |

There are all kinds of adapters for that purpose. Acronis will have no trouble with it. -- Gene E. Bloch letters0x40blochg0x2Ecom |

| Re: How clone a 2 1/2" laptop drive If you already have a drive, then you buy a 2.5 USB enclosure and install the drive in the enclosure. Enclosures have the needed USB cord and the needed AC adapter. If you don't own a drive, just buy a 2.5 USB already installed. It can take quite a while to clone the disk. My system takes around 2 hours to clone a 250 GB drive. Do you absolutely want to add a drive or are you interested in replacing one or are you simply looking at backups? If not replace, then two possibilities spring to mind: external drive (USB or firewire) or network. |

Of course, I backup my entire drive (and network drives) almost daily. However, the files and data on my primary disk are irreplaceable. With a weekly or so backup disk drive and my (almost) daily backups, I'll never (hopefully) have to worry about losing my info. I even backup my drives to two independent backup external drives. I'm anal about backing up. |

To the OP - be sure that you choose an enclosure or cable that will accept your drive. Most of the cables accept both 2.5" and 3.5" drives of both persuasions, IDE/PATA and SATA. Many enclosures accept both IDE/PATA and SATA too, but many accept only one type, and AFAIK all enclosures accept only one drive size. And just to roil the waters a bit more, here's an example of a dock: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=usb+drive+dock&x=20&y=28 Or in TinyURL form, http://preview.tinyurl.com/yhsh74u The docks I've seen all take only SATA, but they all take either 2.5" or 3.5" drives. -- Gene E. I think the free program EASEUS Disk Copy gives those options, but I haven't used it in a while, so I don't fully trust my memory :-) I'm pretty sure Acronis gives those options, but I only use the single-partition option. -- Gene E. | Re: How clone a 2 1/2" laptop drive Yes. Acronis gives you the option to select the entire disk or specific partitions. <rmo555@cox.net> wrote in message news:f8jfd5duubnkgf0ccatdlir0u1s3ojn671@4ax.com... > > On Thu, 15 Oct 2009 21:03:04 -0400, rmo555@cox.net wrote: > >>On Thu, 15 Oct 2009 19:11:23 -0400, rmo555@cox.net wrote: >> >>>I want to use Acronis to clone my disk (laptop).
