| Boot problem Hallo NG, I have a big problem with my Windows Vista Ultimate installation: In my PC I have 2 Sata HD units in the first one (at the time I installed Vista) there was a Windows Xp working installation. Vista have been installed on the second unit but after several time I discovered that the actual boot have been installed on the first disk MBR (that with Windows Xp). Now I had to remove the first disk unit and obviously this will prevent Vista to start. How can I handle that? There's a way to 'rebuild' the Vista boot? Thanks to everyone! |

| Re: Boot problem Hi, Indeed yes, the boot files would still be installed to the [system] drive or active partition, regardless of where the actual operating system files are installed (oddly enough termed to be the [boot] volume). What you would need to do after removing the primary drive is boot with the Vista disk and run a startup repair. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Michele Santucci" <michele.santucci@cdh.it> wrote in message news:DC683DAE-3297-41B3-881D-6BE8B7EDFC0B@microsoft.com... > Hallo NG, > > I have a big problem with my Windows Vista Ultimate installation: > In my PC I have 2 Sata HD units in the first one (at the time I installed > Vista) there was a > Windows Xp working installation. | Re: Boot problem Essentially yes, though the way Win7 sets up the boot is different. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Michele Santucci" <michele.santucci@cdh.it> wrote in message news:eTDl%23hdTKHA.5164@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > The same solution should apply also to Windows 7 installation? > > "Rick Rogers" <rick@mvps.org> ha scritto nel messaggio > news:Oaz4AuSTKHA.3404@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >> Hi, >> >> Indeed yes, the boot files would still be installed to the [system] drive >> or active partition, regardless of where the actual operating system >> files are installed (oddly enough termed to be the [boot] volume). >> >> What you would need to do after removing the primary drive is boot with >> the Vista disk and run a startup repair. >> >> -- >> Best of Luck, >> >> Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP >> http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ >> Windows help - www.rickrogers.org >> >> "Michele Santucci" <michele.santucci@cdh.it> wrote in message >> news:DC683DAE-3297-41B3-881D-6BE8B7EDFC0B@microsoft.com... >>> Hallo NG, >>> >>> I have a big problem with my Windows Vista Ultimate installation: >>> In my PC I have 2 Sata HD units in the first one (at the time I >>> installed Vista) there was a >>> Windows Xp working installation.
