Multipost and Cross Post

Please enlighten me. Perhaps I have the misconception.
I thought if I ......
post the same question more than once on the SAME newsgroup, it is called
multipost,
post the same question in Different newsgroups, it is crosspost.
One should not multipost, but its OK to crosspost.
Am I right or wrong ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossposting
http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm - multiposting

Crossposting should be done judiciously, to no more than 3 groups and to
groups where the post actually is relevant. Multiposting should never be
done.

Multi-post means to post a question to one group. Then, post the same
question to another group, and so on.

Cross-post means to put multiple groups in the field of what group to post
to. And this message is only posted once.

When a post is cross-posted, in all groups, the message(s) are 'tied
together'.

If you cross-post to group x, y & z, if someone posts a reply that read
your post in group z, the reply will also show up in groups x & y.

If they are multi-posted, someone in group x could spend a significant
amount of time replying to your post. The reply however won't show up in
group y & z, and other may waste their time answering it again, because
they didn;t know it was already answered in another group.

quote......Cross-post means to put multiple groups in the field of what
group to post
to. And this message is only posted once.

Thank you.

I'm not sure how to do in Windows mail, but in the news client I use, I
just enter multiple group names in the To: field separated by a comma.

Ex-

To: microsoft.public.windows.vista.general, microsoft.public.vista.mail

Re: Multipost and Cross Post

I crosspost mildly, when selling.
It is a fact you cannot sell a common item by posting a single ad to a
single "forsale" newsgroup; but if I do it's no more than 2-3, or 4 groups
at most and all MUST be explicitly "forsale".
As of Tech Support, one post is enough. I like 2nd opinion for the same
reasons you get it from a doctor or a lawyer - no one is perfect & 2
opinions are usually a must, sometimes 3 & more.

Just be sensible.
Here we have a person nicknamed "Alias" and his crosspostings do constitute
a violation - specifically pestering, spamming and promoting destruction of
our economic system by means of pirated or free software. That person one
day will be punished.

Who the hell posts stuff to a newsgroup for sale ? I guess if it's geek
related, maybe, but Craigslist has replaced the in-print classified ad.

Alias doesn't crosspost. He post's. What's wrong with promoting free s/w
?

You're beloved MS completely destroyed the Web Browser market back-in-
the-day by giving away, for free, Internet Explorer, which put several
browser publishers out of business. Same thing with e-mail clients. You
used to either have to buy one, got one from your ISP when you signed up
for their dial-in service, or used a crippled client in some type of
'free mode'. Then MS included Outhouse Express, goodbye e-mail client
market.

Looks like MS's has destroyed more s/w markets than Alias ever will.

Don't be stupid......ooops....too late.
