Shocking news - NOT

Put in a Google search with search terms "Vista fails malware test".

Raise your hands if you are suprised.

If your referring to this

No surprise at all, I knew defender was junk when it was released, it never
performed well against other spy/malware apps.

I am surprised you trust tests carried out by a competitor.
This was discussed in here the other day. If anyone trusts test results
from a competitor then they are just a fool. Wait until you see independent
results.

Re: Shocking news - NOT

You may wait until your Vista gets malware just using Defender. For myself
I use Avast! AV, Ad-Aware real-time registry notification and Spybot. Does
anyone know a firewall that Vista will accept??

I don't just use Defender. I also use spybot and avast. Windows Defender
has never meant to be a replacement for an antivirus.

Re: BFD

All I am saying is who cares about the malware tests. I have my system
protected and they can "test till the cows come home", but it won't change
my views either way.

"Smart user !
I sent several "bugs" in on Defender, title was "Defender is not Defending";
I use the the same programs you use Marty,"they" haven't let me down to
date.

I use Kaspersky's Internet Security Suite, which is Vista ready. I
know Bitdefender, as well as Norton are also Vista ready. I'm sure
there are some others, but you need to poke around.

BobC.

They haven't been breached as far as I know either. Basically my
OEM told me that all you really need is a good AV program - but he does
recommend Spybot as well. In a previous post I was talking about paying
for "One Care" rather than Defender. After testing One Care in a VMware box
(both Vista 32 and Vista64 are supported in VMware) "One Care" is a piece of
s..t

Personally, if you're geeky enough to be reading this, you don't need
any anti-spyware software. A good firewall and anti virus program is
all that's necessary.

But if you insist....

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/product...e/overview.htm

Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Firewall, Anti-Spam (for both the 32 &
64-bit versions of Vista).

Trend Micro has faired quite well with critics over the past few years
and Microsoft uses it's anti-virus software for Hotmail (go figure).
