sidebar opacity

Is there any way to change how opaque the sidebar itself actually is? I see
options for the gadgets themselves but not the sidebar.

Thanks
- Peter

I'm sure some sort of hack will emerge eventually. It's early days.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Sidebar\Settings

is where some of the settings are stored.

Re: sidebar opacity

Any idea what values are available? I only have 1 there and it has something
to do with docked parts order.

thanks

Re: sidebar opacity

I've been a bit upset with this issue too. The "setting" that changes
the opacity of the sidebar itself is actually under personalization and
then window color and appearance. if you change the color intensity
right there the 'opacity' of the sidebar will change with it. the
frustrating part of the whole thing is that the sidebar is much much
much (can't stress enough the much) darker than the windows. This means
that to get any real transparency out of the sidebar you can't have any
color in the windows. annoying huh?

In the personalise menu, choose 'Vista Basic' as the colour scheme and
the sidebar will be opaque automatically. You can get to this menu
through right clicking on the desktop or searching through the sections
of 'Display' on the control panel.
