Epson Scanners

Very few are Vista compatible, so if you own one and go Vista, plan on a new
scanner (Epson is always behind and expects you to buy new.

Not true. Have you visited the EPSON website lately? I did this morning
and
they have new drivers ready for a lot of products. Don't condem a company
with
hearsay or with what you think. ACT first, then speak.

I've visited their web site regularly because they promissed 'they
would provide
drivers for MOST Epson products once Windows Vista is available at
retail stores'.
Well, at least Epson doesn't provide a Vista driver for my Epson
Perfection 610 scanner.

There are 15 scanners enlisted at the new Vista driver page, and the
Epson's driver
download page shows more than 30 scanner models.(I didn't count the
exact number)
Now I don't know the definition of 'MOST'.

According to the Epson website my Epson Perfection 1660 scanner will never have
vista drivers.

I have an Epson CX3800 and CX4800. No drivers are listed for Vista yet for either all-in-one, but they both function completely with Vista x86 & x64. Download the x86 or x64 (depending on your system) printer and twain drivers, unzip them to C:Epson but don't install, go to add printers, have disk, point to the respective printer driver in C:Epson, install. After a reboot the scanner should then be picked up, then install the respective scanner driver. To install the Epson Scan software, after the printer and scanner are installed run the "setup.exe" file from the scanner file. Have a great day.

That seems to be the secret, and not just for Epson. I've done it since W2K to
get my old HP Scanjet 5P working -- it's detected and shows in Device Manager
but the VISTA built in scanning does not know it is there. But, in my case,
the HP software works fine and it's probably WIN95 generation <g>.

Re: Epson Scanners

My Epson 1200S scanner did not have Vista drivers at the Epson Web site. So
I tried my NT/2k/XP drivers. There was some error the first time I tried
installing. Then Vista offered to try again with "recommended settings," so
I let it try. This time it installed without error, albeit slowly. I am
now able to scan from Vista's Paint accessory.

Re: Epson Scanners

will give this a try and post back.
the driver package installed on vista 64 ultimate but it seems to be a problem with usb communication. when it gets to the point of telling you to turn on your printer to complete, it just sits here does not recognize that the printer has been turned on,

do not know if your way will make a difference or not.

HAPPY to report that this procedure did work somewhat.
took a couple extra steps, but the drivers did eventually get installed.
after the reboot, it did not auto start installing scanner, had to force it.
it prints, have not tried scanner YET.

MANY MANY thanx.

The same for my Epson 2480 scanner. However, after Googling around I
discovered that Epson UK did have drivers for both Vista x86 and x64.

I did.
You didn't

What do YOU call a lot?

Other mfg basically upgrade ALL, understand all?

I'm talking about 1 and two year old scanners that are not bottom line.
Look at the other answers.
Anyway, when I upgrade to Vista, my scrapped Epsons will NOT be replaced
with other Epsons

Out of a myriad of equipment and software as much as 7 years old, Epson
stands alone as negative.

I'll probably try something like that, see if Vista will tweak it or try another scanner driver.
