| Software to burn cd's in Vista ? This may be a really basic question to some people... In the past I've always used Nero to burn cds to play in my car and it's been very simple. The Nero version I had needed to be uninstalled from my computer so I could upgrade to Vista Ultimate so Nero is history. I want to put together a cd of songs from various cds and cannot see a way to just copy the music to a cd without Vista converting the song files into a format that will not play in my car. I don't want to "rip" the song files...just copy them and don't see a way to do it without buying a new version of Nero or other burning software. Vista help has all kinds of info on burning cd's and dvd's but nothing about copying the files in their original format. Is this by design due to "copyright" stuff or am I missing something really basic in my attempt to do this? Thanks, Bob |

| Re: Software to burn cd's in Vista ? Not that I can see, or I'm blind. I see no way to just copy the contents of a music disc in it's original file format to the computer or to burn a disc from a cd of music. Maybe I'm just tired..it's been a long week. | Re: Software to burn cd's in Vista ? Bob, Not sure what version of Nero you have. I had V 5.5.6, and Nero's web site let me download and install Nero V 7.7.5.1 Update that worked with Vista. | Re: Software to burn cd's in Vista ? I had Nero 6 ( don't remember what rev but it was the newest) which was an OEM version that came with my drive. I checked the upgrade for it when I had XP on the computer and it was around $60.00 to upgrade to version 7. I uninstalled Nero 6 before I did the Vista upgrade as it tested as incompatible with Vista. So it looks like I'll have to buy Nero 7 and start over. In media player,to copy a music cd to the "player" click on RIP; copies the music cd in its' original form. There is also BURN in media player ,which burns files to disk. I know the "Rip" function works ,as I copied several music cd's to the player yesterday. Worth a try. Luck |

| Re: Software to burn cd's in Vista ? The only file formats that Media Player rips to are 4 Windows Media variations, mp3 and .wav none of which will play on my car cd player. When you click rip what you get is a copy of the song that's been converted to a ..wma file by default not a copy of the .cda file. The cd audio files are ..cda and are not even visible in Windows from what I can tell. If I try and do a regular file copy of one of the tracks all I get is a 44 byte .cda file that does not play. . I'll have to buy a copy of Nero 7 apparently to do this. I was just "seeing" what "Media Player" would do,pretty impressive <g> |

| Re: Software to burn cd's in Vista ? I thought that some but not all versions of VISTA had a DBD Burner built in, not just the Media Player? Try a search on [Burn a CD or DVD] Which is not to say that a dedicated third party application would not be better. Anyone tried any of the freeware applications for this? |
