I cannot get one download to completion!!

Hello..I just upgraded to windows vista recently and was happy with the new
look (the so called WOW) but then the pains started...........

First I noticed those endless security prompts..but was able to disable that
UAC option
then I was annoyed with the really useless Defender and just disabled it
because I have my internet security software...

Now...I am facing another Vista challenge. I am using IE 7. Whenever I am
downloading a file, the process would be abruptly terminated. No error
messages. Just the file would be there with a size of 1 or 2 mb when it
should be 40 or 50.
I was barely able to download Firefox after a million tries. and it worked
fine for a couple of small files just to get the same problem again!!!

I am using a cable and my internet is working just fine. I tried a download
manager but if the site does not support download resume, I am still having
the trouble.

Any idea on how to solve this issue?
Thanx for the help and I really hope these would be addressed soon by
microsoft for patching

Re: I cannot get one download to completion!!

Andy:
To start with I'm not having any issues. On my systems UAC &
Defender are enabled, NOD32 anti-virus is installed.
During normal operations I get very few security prompts, usually
mis-written programs that still require administrative privileges to run.
When installing things I get prompts which is normal and expected. I use
only IE7 and haven't had problems downloading files from 20kb to 4.5GB other
than an occasional server error or slow download due to server load which
can't be controlled by IE7.
Now the IE7 issue may be caused by a permissions problem, go to
tools, internet options, advanced, security uncheck the box "Check for
signatures on downloaded programs", click apply then OK, close IE7 then
restart IE7. Have a great day.

Re: I cannot get one download to completion!!

Thanx for the reply. I tried your method but it did not work. Again, What
happens is that after a few seconds of starting a download. It looks as if
the connection with the server is lost. With servers that support resume
downloads. I noted that this happens several times.
Would anyone please suggest the solution for this really annoying problem
