You better enroll in class pretty soon because if Microsoft finds out you
are using the Academic version without being a student, they will come and
take away your Birthday!

No, all kidding aside, the only difference is the pricing on the academic
version. Everything else is the same.

Re: Is "Windows Vista Home Premium FOR ACADEMIC USE ONLY" any diff

I am not sure, but I am a student and got Vista business edition for free
from Microsoft. It said in the licence agreement that "When you are no longer
a registered student in a department that is a member of the MSDN Academic
Alliance, you may no longer receive updates for your personal use computer.
However, you may continue to use previously installed software on your
computer".

I suggest you may check with Microsoft because using academic version or I
think even selling acadamic version to someone who is not a student is...
maybe illegal.

Re: Is "Windows Vista Home Premium FOR ACADEMIC USE ONLY" any diff

these are only license issues, it has nothing to do with the feature sets.

"for academic use only" i would bet, you are only allowed to use it for
school, university,to do your learning stuff with it, but no private
amusements or productive work.

The thread is about license issues ....

Actually Microsoft is very broadminded to the extent that anyone can buy
these versions if they have a student in your family! However you are right
that you re not licensed to use them for business purposes and you are
supposed to stop using them when you are no longer a student.

Some versions do differ -- Office Home & Student 2007 has only 4 elements
and does not include Outlook for example. See this comparison:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/su...635841033.aspx

Hope that clarifies.

Not exactly...

Microsoft defines their qualifying criteria as:

- Full- or part-time student

- Home-schooled student

- Full- or part-time faculty or staff of an accredited educational intstitution

- Member of a household meeting any of the above criteria

- Noncommercial use only

I was not limiting it to family ... just saying that Sascha was not
correct.
