| System Builders versions If I was to purchase parts to make a new pc. Then get the system builders OEM disk and I was to have a hardware failure like my mobo was to go out. Could I then use then use the same key on that computer or is that key "wasted" and I would have to go out and buy a new key. |

| Re: System Builders versions That key would still be good. Probably need to be reactivated, though. | Re: System Builders versions Yes as long as you replace the mobo with the same type. | Re: System Builders versions OEM licensed versions of Windows Vista are tied to the very first computer it is installed and activated on. If the motherboard dies and cannot be replaced with the exact same make and model motherboard, then the OEM license has also died and cannot be used again. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "JustinD" wrote: If I was to purchase parts to make a new pc. | Re: System Builders versions The one topic with the most quoted misinformation is that of "OEM OSs". Following is a partial excerpt from Microsoft: ".However, if a licensed end user needs to activate because the OEM pre-activation does not work as expected (e.g., after the replacement of a defective motherboard) they can do so via phone-based activation.." Blatant lie. With generic OEMs (what the OP was referring to, not branded OEMs which it seems you are referring to) you can upgrade or replace your motherboard as many times as your little heart desires. You spewed this lie with XP and now with Vista. Why? Alias |

| Re: System Builders versions About 6-8 months ago, that was the plan. They got so much flak from it, that they changed their minds. It's all good now. In the course of explaining what to do it mentions that a "BIOS Check" is made ....... |
