| An Anti-Linux Opus Linux is like introducing Communism. It defies the principle of paying for goods. This defiance is only acceptable for Social causes like medical supplies for victims of a natural disaster - the State provides it for free as far as budget allows on top of any private investment, or reduced cost of a national Mail or Railway service. It's no secret mailing a letter in USA costs more than you pay, but it is so critical for social fabric that State taxes all to provide this common service. For decades US Government even sponsored Phone service, preventing anyone from competing with AT&T. But often State control goes awry so AT&T started charging $3/minute adjusted for inflation in 1990's when we came to this country, when calling Russia. And I've spent 20 years of my 38 years of life, biorn/raised in a country where like you say people assume software should be free. But having exprienced that system personally, I say It's a malicious, poisonous concept - Communism. Capitalism is not an answer, it's also bad, but there's no perfect land/system on this Earth, yet USA is one of the best. And frankly I prefer to pay for Windows and don't want to see US Premier Corporation - Microsoft, to be hurt. It employs great many people who spend their income buying goods other people produce, and the cycle goes on. Software is not a life's necessity, not a socially-critical type of product which must be free or even discounted. You have to pay for it, so development wouldn't stop. But then you will hit me back by saying how Linux has progressed and development is so vibrant, continues w/o any customers paying $200/disk (or whatever they pay) as with Windows? You know why? PRECISELY BECAUSE THERE's WINDOWS. Kill WIndows, and linux will turn into a stagnant hobbyist piece of code even further, because right now Linux clique i sdriven by an ideal, like Fidekl Castro was driven to Socialism and made his nation POOR in the process. Whenever you stop charging for a product, someone loses a job, and someone who makes it for free is a lunatic, selfless dopehead or has a political agenda against Corporate America. I do not support your efforts. It's not surprising you live in Spain! If i wanted, I could immigrate to Germany where many of our relatives re-settled, but i had enough of Socialism. I can pay for Windows and will continue using it for business. I use linux to entrtain my mind, reduce cost for noncritical applications like appliances, or science/experiements. But if design a circuit board for a Military customer, I use Cadence Allegro16.2 running under WINDOWS, even though Cadence offers the same under Linux. But evertime I check Linux version, it's crippled/limited comparing to Windows. Absolutely same with AWR MicrowaveOffice costing $34,000 in full license, I am not going to risk running under Linux even if they offer. I have to often do "homework" in Linux, which was already done by Microsoft in Windows - usually device drivers, like peripherals, BlueRay Disks, external pointing device, video, etc all needs some tweaks in Linux. But it's all complete in WIndows, why bother with Linux just because it's "cool". On the other hand I drive a bare-bonez stripped down Nissan Sentra and find more joy in it than in cars costing 4x more, comfortable & shiny! I guess unlike software, with cars I am Linux-like, I refuse major models and prefer my rugged Sentra horse. I hate Toyot, Mercedes, BMW like you hate Microsoft, perhaps. |

If you took a poll of Desktop users, most won't have a $34,000 program that necessitates the use of Windows. Or any of the programs that can only run on Windows. Linux is a perfectly viable solution. And you can keep using it as long as you like.
