DVD Not Recognized

OS Vista Ultimate x32 SP2
DVD Samsung SH-S183L

I placed a DVD in the tray to do a backup. The spindle spins for 5
seconds and stops. The system does not recognize that a DVD is in the
tray. CD's are OK.

I probably inadvertently changed something in the past weeks while
trouble shooting another problem. I don't have a clue what I did.

Any suggestions on where to look?

Thanks.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I might have a flaky DVD-RW. After
fumbling around it did read one DVD. Try it again and it doesn't. The
drivers are up to date. I might try removing and let windows find it
again and see what happens.

Hmmm. Good idea. Next time I'm in town I'll look one up.
