| Windows update problem I keep getting told an update is available: Visual Studio 2008 SP1 - 365MB So I click ok to d/l and install it. The normal dialogue comes up (after I click ok to UAC) and it says installing (far too quick) Then it says all done. No request to restart Windows. Then I get the new updates available msg and it's the same one. Try again and again and again with numerous reboots. Why won't this update either d/l and install or go away? |

| RE: Windows update problem Hello Jack, This article describes how to troubleshoot Windows Update or Microsoft Update when you are repeatedly offered an update. This article also describes how to troubleshoot the problem when Automatic Updates repeatedly downloads and installs the same update. <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/910339> Could you please post a section of the WindowsUpdate.log by going to %windir%\windowsupdate.log Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log and then click OK. Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install. If appropriate copy and paste the error codes into this thread so someone may be able to assist you. On the other hand, you may be able to find the error code and other suggestions by searching the Newsgroup. Also check Windows folder for file called KB******.log (****** = number of update ie KB896688) and post the contents of the failed update. This may provide further clues as to why the update failed. How to read the Windowsupdate.log file: <http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=902093> -- "Jack" wrote: [color=blue] > I keep getting told an update is available: Visual Studio 2008 SP1 - 365MB > So I click ok to d/l and install it. > The normal dialogue comes up (after I click ok to UAC) and it says > installing (far too quick) > Then it says all done. Whereas before it would say downloading then jump straight to installing... this time it appears to be downloading for real |
