Re: vista problems

Look into the runas command.

Log into whatever standard account you can. Start a command prompt (
md.exe ). At the prompt, type in:

runas /?

After reading the help try:

runas /user:MyOtherAccountWithAdminRights regedit

It will prompt you for a password .. type in the password for the other
account with admin rights

Regedit should run and you should be able to do the editing you need to do.

I found I only had to use the /user: switch and didn't need the /evn
switch etc. etc.

Re: vista problems

This happened to me too, but with only one account. I think I had the
password wrong. I tried with a different account on the machine and it
worked. Make *sure* you are using the right account-name / account-password
combination. Make sure CAPS Lock or any some such is turned off. If there
are other Administrators group accounts try them, and even try the
Administrator account itself.

Could you please post the exact command-line command you type in?

Download this password remover, it's free:

Burn the image to a cd or floppy and boot your machine.
Follow the defaults to delete any administrator passwords.

Re: vista problems

Crikies.

I'm stumped. I tried the scenario on one of my computers. I hide a couple
admin accounts and got regedit to run with admin privileges through a
standard account using the runas command at a command prompt (cmd.exe). It
did work. Although for one admin account I noticed the password didn't work.
I wondered why and thought it might be that I had the wrong password. I
tried another hidden account and it worked fine, so I put it down to
incorrect password.

I'm sitting here wondering if an 'in-place' upgrade (Vista upgraded to
Vista) might solve the problem. I'm reserved though until I see it work. I
will try to try the scenario soon. 'Hopefully someone will have the answer
for you even sooner.
