| vista entirely acting slow and choppy with everything i do!! hey everyone!=) im new to this forum and im wondering if anyone can help me with a problem i have. i recently *installed windows vista ultimate 32-bit* on a *ultra 320 scsi drive* and was acting *slow and every-time i would open anything no matter what it is it would appear by shades *(like when recording a tv or a computer screen with a digital camera)**. i was thinking it was the drive so i installed it on a *IDE drive* (80 GB) and still acts the same. if anyone can help i would appreciate this. You want at least 2GB. But I suspect it is a driver issue. There are no Vista drivers for that system. It isn't really suitable for Vista. | Re: vista entirely acting slow and choppy with everything i do!! You have to disable many things in Vista before it matches WinXP speed. I did and now happy with speed. I am not happy with a few issues, but speed is not one of them. I switched to Appearance--.Classic (no Aero idiocy), turned off UAC, Ethernet packet/ACK autotuning which instantly solves file copy problem over the network, I knocked WinExplorer to XP-like behavior, turned off Indexing services on all drier, off autoplay on all drives, disabled MANy services in Services console and MSCONFIG... too many things to list. So my speed as almost as good as WinXP. That Vista was meant for entertainment and not business is obvious, well we have to bear with it until Windows7.... |

| Re: vista entirely acting slow and choppy with everything i do!! Actually Malke was also right, I didn't notice. Vista by itself is a step backwards for Microsoft, comparing to good old WinXP But Malke is right about memory. Get 4GB memory, don't even bother with 2GB as prices have come down, I got high-end Corsairs two 2GB LAPTOP modules a total of 4GB for mere $50, desktop may cost even less. You can end up paying even $35 for no-name generic memory, but even Corsairs don't cost much. Besides Corsair, try QCZ, Micron, Kingston is a very common OEM supplier (but not for high-end). The worst is probably K-byte and PNY, cheap trash. Try mad ein America or at least Europe, Taiwanese are most abundant but I dont pick those, mine are made in Colorado, USA by Corsair (not ValueSelect which i smade in Taiwan). OK to make this rant short: Get 4GB memory. |

You can have the best hardware in the world but if there are no drivers for the operating system you want to run the box won't work right. Unless you can write your own drivers. LOL.
