In any event, your issue is not caused by malware. Either the drivers are bad or the hardware is bad. First update the drivers (see below for details). Then go to Control Panel>Device Manager and find the Intel ethernet adapter entry. Double-click it to get its Properties. You will see a tab called "Power Management". Click on the tab and clear the box that says "allow Windows to turn off this device when not in use". Now see if the issue is resolved. If it isn't, your hardware is bad and should be replaced. Since this is probably an onboard adapter, if you have a desktop machine you'll need to disable it in the BIOS and install a PCI ethernet adapter (very inexpensive). If this is a laptop you won't be able to fix this by yourself and will need to call the laptop mftr.'s tech support. Of course you may want to do this in either case if the machine is under warranty. | Re: vista keeps restarting randomly Addendum - Sorry, I forgot to give you the information about getting drivers: Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from: 1. The device mftr.'s website; OR 2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR 3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.). Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers. To find out what hardware is in your computer: 1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer. 2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway) 3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc Advisor or System Information for Windows.
