Newbie nable to find or create system restore points

Hi,
My Windows Vista Enterprise has a serious problem.
It is unable to find, delete, or create any system restore points.
I have not found a way to re-initialize the system restore point process.
Can someone tell me how to do this?
TIA,
Ed

Right click on "Computer" (on desktop)
Select "System Protection" (on lh side)
Deselect Available Disks
Click OK
Then go back to "System Protection"
and reselect Available Disks
Click OK & System Restore will be reset.

Your "system administrator" will be able to assist you with your
"Enterprise" installation of Vista.

You may find that System Restore has been turned off in Group Policies and
that your corporation is using another method to backup your system.

Re: Newbie unable to find or create system restore points

Thanks to Mike and WHS.
When I follow your instructions the Search for System Restore Disks just
never returns.
Note as a result of this, I am unable to install any software that relies on
finding the
Shadow Volumes.

I do not see a box that will permit me to simply not search in the first
place.
Perhaps there is one in the registry.

Thanks to Richard Urban for his suggestion about turning off the item in
group policy. I will try that next.
Thanks to all respondents again.
Ed

Re: Newbie nable to find or create system restore points

Richard,
Thanks for your suggestion. I am also inexperienced in administering my
copy of Vista Enterprise.

I used gpedit to check on options for System Restore. In the information
related to turning the
System Restore function, It says that both options are only used in Windows
XP professional.
I have turned the Configuration Off and the System Restore off. Perhaps
this will permit me
to search successfully for Vista Restore Points. At the moment, the search
function never returns
with volumes or points and does not permit me to create one.

I think my problem has come about because of all the MS OS's I have on the
system in separate
partitions: Windows 7 RC, Windows Server Enterprise 2008 SP2; Vista
Enterprise SP2; and Windows XP Home.
I did disable search for System Restore Points on XP Home. It does not seem
to have helped.

I'll see if the Dartmouth Administrators know what to do.
Thanks again.
Ed
