Trojans -vs- Iexplorer and Mozilla Firefox

I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit, and the latest Mcafee antivirus.

I got hit with a trojan virus. Now both Internet Explorer 8 and mozilla
3.1.1 will no longer work. Firefox will no longer load at all. IE8 will
load 2 copies and both freeze up before brining up my webpage.

Any ideas folks?

Patty

Dump McAfee and get real protection.

AVG 8.5 Free
SuperAntiSpyware Free
MalwareBytes Free

Re: Trojans -vs- Iexplorer and Mozilla Firefox

Actually you can do better than that combo.

For a home user :

Avast Home - turn off unused shields.
Windows Defender
SmartScreen Filter (in IE8)
Run IE8 in Protected Mode and with InPrivate Filtering as the default
(registry entry)
Prevx 3.0 Free
UAC on or in Quiet Mode
Windows Firewall
Set InPrivate Filtering at AUTO or Prompt and use the converted AdBlocker
File.
Windows UpDates ON however set Advanced System Settings - Hardware Tab -
Windows Update Driver Settings - Never Check for Drivers when I connect a
Device (always go to a device makers site and manually look for updated
drivers).

Even more secure would be to use InPrivate Browsing all the time.

The security built into Vista is so integrated that many programs just get
in the way.

Use SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes as Scanners Only, nothing resident.
Though mine has never caught anything except an occasional cookie.

There are other scenarios however this one is extremely tight.
