€20 Euro reward if anybody can fix this.

I posted the message below 2 weeks ago but got no nnswer - I have
tried everything that was suggested on other threads here but nothing
works … I will give €20 to anybody that can solve it - I will pay it
into a paypal account or credit card or cash .. I just want it fixed.
Thanks.

Hello

I am trying to install AVG - and I get this message:

AVG setup self-extractor based on 7-zip has stopped working.

I cannot seem to be able to run any .exe files ... tried to install
Spybot same thing ...

downloaded 7-zip - same thing 'has stopped working'.

I am not particularly technical so would appreciate any help. Thanks.

I don't want your 20 pounds because my helping on these newsgroups is
completely voluntary. I do computer repair/tech support for a living but
can charge you only if you are a client physically here where I am, nothing
long distance.

That said, unfortunately you haven't given us any details about what "tried
everything" entailed and I can't possibly guess what you have and haven't
done. The symptoms you describe are common in extremely infected computers.
I'll give you my usual answer about scanning for malware, but if that
doesn't help - or you've already done everything mentioned - either take
the machine to a competent local computer tech (not a
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place) OR back up your data and do a
clean install of Windows. It's your choice of course.

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to do
all scans in Safe Mode. Please see the special Notes regarding using
Multi_AV in Vista.

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Multi-AV - instructions
http://tinyurl.com/yoeru3 - download link and more instructions

When all else fails, get guided help. Choose one of the specialty forums
listed at the first link. Register and read its posting FAQ. PLEASE DO NOT
POST LOGS IN THE MS NEWSGROUPS.

unfortunately, I only except
authentic pots of gold from

in the interim, my suggestion
is to uninstall that avg krapola
and find a different av.

Um,
no.
AVG is the best free antivirus out there.
having said that, I'm thinking it is a problem with 7-zip. I have used
that utility and it tries to be the default ZIP file handler.

I suggest uninstalling is, rebooting and then try installing AVG.

You can probably find a deal on the inernet for internet security less than
20 Euros! I have found deals such as at these links or the periodic specials
at www.frys.com but don't know what is available to you in your country.

Thanks for replies ... unfortunately I cannot install any antivirus or
even Malwarebytes - to check if I have malware .. keep getting 'has
stopped working' message during installation process.

I will go now and read the links posted above and see if I can make any
progress. Thanks.

Re: €20 Euro reward if anybody can fix this.

you're certainly entitled
to an opinion.

but I am entitled to mine
as well.

you should break out the
magnifying glass and
review the terms and
conditions of "all" freeware
to ascertain an idea as to
why they are not absolutely
free.

the error the o.p. seems to
have pertains to avg.

therefore, my suggestion
is to uninstall it.

it’s a simple solution.

I can indeed fix the problem. Simply install Linux and you don't need no
stiking anti-virus anyway!

That would probably suffice for a lot of folk's needs. But some like to
browse the internet, send and recieve e-mail, balance the checkbook, do a
few Office apps, edit some photos, etc. All of which Linux will handle
quite nicely while still not requiring any anti-virus software to be
installed.

Re: ?20 Euro reward if anybody can fix this.

Being "entitled to an opinion," is not an excuse for giving biased, stupid,
misleading and very bad advice, evident from your slagging off AVG, which is
very good quality software. Such a shame that your Windows platform was in
such a dreadful mess that you possibly had a bad experience with AVG !
....quite often, such a persons PC hardware is in an awful mess as well :-)
AVG is software which is unusually tolerant of finding itself installed into
a Windows environment which is a dreadful mess - yours must have been in a
hideous mess !

regards, Richard

Re: ?20 Euro reward if anybody can fix this.

my systems are perfect,
optimal and infection free

and certainly without the
use of avg.

to use your avg.
