| Emailing Pictures from Windows Explorer - Email button brings Outlook instead of Thunderbird Hi, Contact has a Vista business laptop that until recently when you went into Windows Explorer to look at pictures you can press the email button and it would prepare an email in their email client Mozilla Thunderbird with the image as a file attachment. However recently this has changed back to Microsoft Outlook for no particular reason. Checked all the defaults and they all point to Thunderbird still being the default program for email. Under file associations, have checked that for protocols, SENDTO is set to Thunderbird. However the "E-mail" button still now brings up Outlook. How can I change this back. It's very frustrating and I've played around for a good long while. Thanks in advance. |

That's my point. It is set everywhere to be default for Thunderbird but in the situation I have described it still brings up Outlook 2007. |

When I email a picture from explorer I right click the image then select "send to" and then "mail recipient" which opens Thunderbird. Have you tried doing it that way? |

Then go back in and make T-Bird the default and see if that doesn't work. If you don't use Outlook, another way to do it is to uninstall Outlook. You don't have to uninstall the rest of Office to do that, btw. The reason it happened is when you update Outlook 07, it automatically makes itself the default without any user input. Note that pre Vista versions of Windows, you had an icon that was named "My computer". Notice anything missing in Vista? Alias |

THEY delicate how your system will look and feel (minimize User Options, especially in Vista). Microsoft, as far as there OS goes, have stopped being concerned about the User, maximizing User Options so we can configure OUR system to look and feel the way WE want. Example, Windows 7 is reported to eliminate classic Start Menu user interface. See Microsoft's attitude, to hell with users who LIKE classic modes. Sorry for the rant... | Re: Emailing Pictures from Windows Explorer - Email button brings Outlook instead of Thunderbird I recently upgraded from a Windows XP computer to one running Vista. Using Microsoft Vista and Thunderbord 2.0.0.22 I had he same problem as many of you describe above, right-clicking on a picture and choosing "send to mail recipient" would open up Microsoft Mail, despite the fact that Thunderbird is my default email program. An attempt to reinstall Tunderbird using the "default setup" did not change anything. Here is what worked for me: I had to reinstall Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 using the "custom installation" option in the setup program. Once I entered the custom installation menues I choose the default selections for all questions. Now right-clicking on a picture and selecting "mail to" opens Thunderbird as desired. -- Kurt ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kurt's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/114098.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1203792.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

| Re: Emailing Pictures from Windows Explorer - Email button brings Outlook instead of I Just got around this myself. Goto Control Panel\Default Programs and click on "Set program access and computer deafults" Goto Custom, Under Choose A default e-mail program (mine was set to Use my current e-mail program) change this to Mozilla Thunderbird, then OK (check other settings while you are here - default web browser, Mozilla Firefox etc) . . . . Now it works again. Select an image, right-click, choose Send to, Mail Reciepent and Thunderbird starts and te pitcure is attached! Hooray! |
