S3 Power

Is there a way of shutting down some or all the fans when the system is in
standby? I used to have this working in Win XP using the S3 power state. The
powercfg reports that only the (S3) Hibernate hybrid sleep state is
available. I've had a look in the advanced power options but can find
nothing there which might help me.

The motherboard is an ASUS P5AD2 Deluxe and I have S3 enable in the bios

Re: S3 Power

Standby modes won't work well - or at all - if your motherboard or chipset
drivers are either not present or not updated. Check with your motherboard
manufacturer for updated drivers.

Re: S3 Power

It works pretty well, awakens from both standby and hibernation without
problems others have reported here - just not perfectly - but no drivers
yet. Or should it be a BIOS upgrade to be compatible with Vista? I didn't
need drivers with XP. It's early days and it's a minor problem.

What settings have you allowed in the BIOS?

I have all sorts of problems when waking up from sleep or hibernation.
Sometimes freezes up, or the Aurora screensaver crashes, or TV card doesn't
work, and more. I am using the latest BIOS (a couple of weeks old) for my
Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard.

There are a lot of people complaining about similar problems all over the
net, and I'm surprised it doesn't get mentioned here very often.

Re: S3 Power

Whether or not you thought you needed drivers in XP ... you did. :-)

I don't think a BIOS upgrade would do the trick since it worked in XP. I
think you just may need to wait for a driver/chipset update and that should
solve the dodgy issues you're seeing.

Re: S3 Power

Again, this is almost surely a driver issue - unless it also did it under
Windows XP in which case you have a larger problem that needs addressing.
:-)

Since you're having multiple device issues you might also be looking at a
BIOS update. Best to check with the hardware manufacturer.

Re: S3 Power

Doubt I'll see any upgrades now. The Mobo is probably 3 years old now and my
guess is that ASUS would have forgotten all about it by now. After all, they
have my money already so there's no incentive to do any further work.
