Still Awaiting SP-2

(Running Vista Ultimate 64-bit, SP-1, IE-7, classic mode.)

Based on previous posts here, I thought that by now MS's
update service would have offered me SP-2. No sign of it.
Has it been sent to everyone who should get it via automatic
updates? I have not yet installed IE-8, but previous posts
here suggest that IE-8 is not a prerequisite.

Insight?

Go here, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd262148.aspx, and
download the required x86 or 64 bit version instead of waiting for it to
come to you.

While, technically, IE8 is not a prerequisite to SP2, I have noted on more
than one Vista machine that until you install the optional IE8, Windows
Update will not offer SP2...

Re: Still Awaiting SP-2

That is incorrect. SP2 will be offered regardless of the version of IE that
is installed.

Re: Still Awaiting SP-2

This has not been my experience. Until yesterday, for example, my brother's
computer was not offered SP2 until IE8 was allowed to install. Once
installed, SP2 was offered immediately. Perhaps if the IE8 update were
hidden, SP2 would show up for the OP...

Re: Still Awaiting SP-2

I am using - right now - a Vista HP laptop (x86) with IE7 to remote into a
Vista Ultimate Desktop (x64) also with IE7 and both are currently being
offered SP2 without any intervention on my part. Both are set as any
consumer system would be to check for windows updates, nothing special,
neither is a test bed but are rather everday working systems.

Re: Still Awaiting SP-2

Same thing happened to me.

I knew the update was out there, but it didn't show up. And I'd been
putting off the IE8 update.

I let the IE8 update go through and shortly after that was done, I got
offered SP2.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32 bit on an AMD dual core.

You're imagining things.

I had it offered to me and I've still not installed IE8.

Re: Still Awaiting SP-2 > Closure!

On June 19, 2009, I posted the message below. I can now
report that, although I have not yet installed IE-8,
yesterday's updates included SP-2. It took 5 hours
(dial-up) to download, and another hour+ to install, but it
seems to be working fine.
